2020 F1 SEASON

We've seen on several occasions where Hamilton can care for his tired better than Bottas. I think he's a smoother driver and he's is a more canny driver, as well. It's just one more tool in his toolbox that has allowed him to win so many Championships.

Yes, Bottas may be as good a driver based on qualifying but clearly Hamilton is the better "racer."

I guess there's a tiny rumor out there that Hamilton might retire?

I don't buy it.
I think that his comments are strategic for bargaining.

Well, the qualifying was certainly entertaining...likely won't affect the "normal" course of events during the race but nevertheless, you have to hand it to Stroll for getting poll in awful conditions both weather wise and track wise.

I was never a fan of Stoll but clearly he deserves his F1 seat no matter what happens in the race.

1 Stroll
2 VerStappen
3 Perez
4 Albon
5 Ricciardo
6 Hamilton
7 Ocon
8 Raikkonen
9 Bottas
10 Giovinazzi

What an amazing achievement by Hamilton on winning his 7th World Championship!

And consistently with all of his other press conferences, he has given a large amount of the credit to the whole team, I'm sure they absolutely love it when he does that and will work hard to keep him in the best car.

A very entertaining race and one that Lance Stroll with be thinking about things lost for a long, long, long time.

Great for Perez, two drivers who have been passed over by their team also stood on the podium with Hamilton.

Perez continually shows that he is a very capable driver, it's mind boggling to me how he doesn't have a drive for next year, especially with the money he brings with him to a team. Perhaps he has a personality like Carl Lewis did during his hay day that the public isn't aware of.

What an amazing race. Challenging conditions and Hamilton proves why he's the best F1 driver in the world.
Did you see his tires when he pulled in the podium area? The were essentially slicks.

That was a drive for the ages as qualifying proved that for once this season the Mercedes was not the best car for those conditions and yet Hamilton prevailed and Bottas, a very very good driver. flailed and was lapped.

Vettel was very very gracious and it was nice to see Perez pull off the second biggest surprise by using the same very risky strategy that Hamilton did.

So much for "Hamilton can only win in the best car" nonsense.

His humility seems genuine and only makes the team work for him that much harder.

Perez now 4th in the driver standings, and Racing Point now ahead of McLaren for third in the Constructors.

Amazing collapse by Stroll.

Turns out he had some hidden damage that took away his front downforce.

A shame for him.

The one hattrick Hamilton won't beat (Heyer, Germany 1977)

Hans Heyer has quite an unusual F1 record. He is the only driver ever to get disqualified after he failed to finish a race which he was never even allowed to start.

He entered the German Grand Prix in 1977 driving for ATS. He didn’t have a lot of experience with single-seater cars and his car was also just slow, so he didn’t manage to qualify for the race, which meant he wasn’t allowed to start.

This didn’t stop him from racing though. He knew the marshalls very well, so Heyer parked his car on the grid and the marshalls didn’t stop him. His race didn’t last long though, on lap 10 he retired with gearbox issues. Only then the race directors realised what happened, and they disqualified him, even though he already retired from the race.

Heyer never drove in Formula One again.

Looks like Leclerc is expecting a big jump in pay according to that chart.

:wow

Grosjean is one very lucky man, VERY LUCKY, and any arguments over the halos have been settled.

When I first saw the accident, I thought that whoever was in that car was a goner.

I've never seen a car go through that with the driver surviving, absolutely he owes his life to the Halo, without it he could not have survived, though I imagine for a couple seconds there he was thinking that the very device that saved his life would trap him in the car.

Absolutely amazing that he survived and walked away from that.

Kind of ironic that Kvyat was involved in both incidents, though that was 100% Grosjean's fault for his accident. When I kept hearing them use the term 'retardation' I was uncharitably thinking that it was the cause of his accident. I will want to see what the g forces were, they must have been enormous.

I really felt for Perez, he had 3rd in the bag with would have kept his team in 3rd place in the constructor's championship, that engine failure was very costly. It had a double whammy of handing 3rd place to the guy whose seat is the only one potentially available to him for next year.
