2020 F1 SEASON

Who would have thought, back in the 2000's, that Michael Schumacher's 92 wins would get broken by 2020?

Been to that one a few times. Shitty track sure but subway makes it such easy access. And Montreal isn’t a bad place to spend the weekend.

Montreal is cool, except Sunday when everything (not sure if still the case) was shut down.

I was really really rooting for Raikkonen when he had that great start.

Why is Albon still in the car??

Perez had a heck of a drive from the back after getting taken out by Verstappen. I personally think that was Verstappen's fault, but the powers that be aren't going to ruin the show by holding him accountable as the only person who can even come close to Mercedes.

One of the hilites of the day was Perez vs Ocon, that was close and fair racing, the way it should be.

Right? The GOAT was just passed by the best driver in history. Hamilton is legend status...all earned. That dude works soooo hard for all of it. Huge fan of Hammy's.

IMO, Verstappen's eyes are going to be at the apex and then, down track at the outside tracks edge. Perez was in his blindspot and knew it. Drivers aren't looking that direction usually.

Agreed on Hamilton, and he never talks about his own success without giving huge props to all of the workers that make it possible. He knows that it takes the best car and the best team to support a driver for continued success, and he puts in the hard work to carry his part.

Thanks for your input on Verstappen, I've never raced cars or motorcycles so I don't have that perspective on the business of racing regardless of how many races I've watched. :thumbup

Hamilton's story is a grand one but won't be repeated any time soon in terms of a young man of color with limited means catching the eye of a person of import and then seized the opportunity when presented and became a record setter in the very competitive F1 arena.

Hopefully I'm wrong but in what other sport does bringing money to the party get you an almost automatic "in" as a competitor?

In his defense, his pace was decent yesterday. If the team hadn't gone with a two stop strategy, he would have finished much higher.

Still his days are numbered.

On a related note, Gasly just looks fast right now.

We definitely need a karting event when things are safe to go, soon!

I can't agree George. There's only one race in racing and it's "the race itself". When a driver/ rider passes you, you don't care what race or gender they are. You care about getting that spot back. The Formula 1 slogan "we race as one" is about the most inane slogan for a racing organization. Racer's race for themselves and their teams; no one else and certainly not "as one". Dumb stuff, IMO.

Bubba Wallace has caught the eyes of sponsors and put himself on an excellent team. More so, Michael Jordan is fronting a team in Nascar. Expectations are for more black drivers in Nascar...Maybe Chase Austin will move up to a Cup team. Racing's not a complicated sport in how competitors move up through the tiers; they win. Yes, some drivers are chosen, but teams need winners...or at the least, drivers who can run up front. Bad luck, shitty team, or poor driving is where drivers lose their rides. In an effort to be more diverse, drivers who are female or minority may have better chances for seats. They're more salable to sponsors in the US. World wide, the F1/2/3 divisions host a large variety of races on their grids. The one area where NASCAR marginally bests F1 is in diversity of women on their grids. Thanks for Danica, she showed the driving world what a woman can do in a car on a pro grid. We don't see much woman/ black drivers in the youth series and that is why I don't believe we have more of these racers at the top.

Regarding "bringing money" into a sport: not all racing is that way. In fact, bringing a sponsor helps, but isn't essential in American pro racing series. Drivers who bring money still have to be able to drive to remain competitive. Yeah, we know the guys who are just spending money to turn laps in the back, but overall, what matters most is the car. What car a driver sits in factors significantly in a driver's outcome. The reason Hamilton (and likewise Bubba) have done so well in their series is they're excellent drivers (Hamilton more so than Bubba) and they're racers at their core. They may be black, but more so; they're impressive. Hamilton is an unreal driver in the best car. To the victor go the spoils...as is always the case in racing. The thing I love most about racing is the racer's raw mindset: beat who ever is in front and if I'm in front, catch the cars in last place and start passing them.

I fucking love Perez, that DRS Gasly hold-ff was so aggressive and ballsy. Man that guy can put on a show.

I'm LOVING Albon's outside passes. Those things make me stiff!

Williams re-signed Russell.

Not sure where Perez is going to end up. Alfa Romeo are retaining Raikkonen and Giovinazzi for 2021.

Well, my name's not George but I don't see another black or brown Hamilton making it as far as he in F1 with essentially a middle class upbringing any time soon.

Discussion here.

Paid drivers have been a thing from one extent to another in F1 for years. Costs are so high, it's going to be inevitable that we will have a field of F1 cars with 100% paid drivers.

I believe NASCAR is/will be suffering from the same fate.

Pleas elaborate. What is "paid driver" and what's the alternative?

Haas perhaps?

Paid = buy-a-ride (is what I believe they're saying with the term).

Sorry Geoff, I was talking on a call and typing the response at the same time. Mistake...

There's really only one "race" talked about on race grids (for the racers). The race grids are one place we can have purity of a result. Professional sports favor those who show supreme talent. The discussion on how the talent becomes supreme is unending...

Not seeing the problem here. We made it illegal to spend that money to bribe your kids way into college. Gotta spend it on something. :laughing

F1 has been like that from the start. It's always been a gentleman's sport. IMSA is another venue full of gentlemen racers...
