2021 Ford Bronco - shots fired

I had a SportTrac before I bought my Tacoma. I hated that small ass bed. I literally couldn't load my long rifle cases in the bed. They had to go on the back seat. When I started shopping for my Tacoma I made sure it had a 6ft bed.

Yeah, I have a Ford Ranger which is basically the Explorer but with no passenger row and a 6ft bed. I was actually thinking of upgrading to the Sport Trac but that bed is pretty useless so decided against it.

I thought it came with a bed extender that basically makes the bed 6ft.

But the "bed extender" is really just a cage for the tailgate so you can drive with it down and theoretically extend the bed. I don't recall them being available as a stock item with the truck. They were definitely optional, though.

I've honestly never understood why people think a half a foot seems to make or break a truck when you can just lower the tailgate and use one of those "bed extenders" to carry whatever you need...assuming you really need that extra half a foot. I'd suspect most truck owners do not. :dunno

Since this is a Ford thread, I saw a Mach-E today. It's not terrible looking but it just seems wrong.

Only the name is wrong.

They for sure shouldn't have attached the mustang name to it.

I'm not sure they would have received enough publicity surrounding the Mach-E if they didn't stir the pot by putting the Mustang name on it.

A standard truck bed is 6 foot. I think the Sport Trac is closer to 4 foot. The extra 2 feet make a significant difference when carrying basic things. I don't even think a motorcycle will fit in a 4 foot bed.

So it the Maverick that's based on the Bronco Sport will come in a 4 foot bed it will probably flop.

When did that happen? It used to be 8 feet.

:afm199

I wish it still was. I am constantly running into size and weight limitations on my Ranger. Yeah it's easy to drive (relatively) but in retrospect I wish I got a full-size truck with an extended bed.

Trucks haven't really got smaller in size, but that useful bed space has been taken by crew cabs and massive second rows. :thumbdown

I should be able to put a full sheet of plywood in the bed of my truck, thus 4'x8'.
Once we move out of the Bay Area for good we will be buying a full-size truck with a full-size bed. Not something we want to have to drive/park in the city, though.

6x8 for real trucks, 4x8 is for those silly step sides that only look good on truck manufactured before 1950 or so

i have a chevy that's my daily. "full size" 4 door truck but the bed is 6' long, maybe a hair less. i can't even fit my mountain bike in the bed without turning the front wheel.

it does a much better job hauling the kids around than the '67 ford f100 single cab, which was the piont getting it.

the new baby bronco should be called a Gelding and in case you don't know Horse Talk, a gelding is a boy horse that has had it's nuts removed... because the Ford Eunuch sounds too much like Edsel?

I've owned some old Mustangs that I enjoyed and consider myself a car enthusiast but I don't understand getting worked about car names. Hate to sound too much like a hippie but these cars are just consumer products produced by large corporations.

Names like Mustang or Bronco or Camaro or Corvette aren't delivered to us by robe-wearing mystics from some secret order. If the names mean that much to people, the marketing department have done their jobs well.

And I'm sure you wouldn't complain if Chevy came out with a four-door Corvette, right? :laughing

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. I was referring to a sheet of plywood which is 4x8.
