Actor Elliot Page (formerly Ellen Page) comes out as Transgender

It's disorienting with the pronoun "they."

Think of it all this way: A real motorcyclist could ride left-shift motorcycles for years and then get on an old British right-shift BSA and be just fine after thirty seconds.

Surely you can adapt without discomfort.

I used to race a Norton back to back with a Hurricane. Finish the race, pit, hop on the next bike, and go back out. Only missed it once.

They never bothered me!

or even an old ultaco :laughing

I do have the irritating habit of using the singular they unless I'm fairly confident of the individual's gender- so that means most of the regular posters in the sink get that treatment.

The Fergie song Big Girls Don't Cry bugged me for !many years because of what I considered her incorrect use of pronouns. "Like a child misses their blanket."
I always said it should be "his or her blanket" being a singular child she is referring to. Recently, someone said that they/they're/their is now appropriate. Guess what? It doesn't bother me anymore. I adapted.

Actually this thread belongs in the Political section, as it's definitely political.

I don't think it is PC anymore to call a trans person a Bultaco. You need to get modern with this. Now you call them an, "equally legitimate and finely crafted real taco."

I apologize.

Or a finely made Wurst.

I always learned that it was proper to refer to an unknown singular person with they/them pronouns - as in "someone dumped their trash in our trashcan last night and now it's full, ugh"

It was a little bit of a shift for me to transfer that habit to someone I know. Practice helps.

Is that the metaphorical trashcan or the garbage bin?

Fucking obvi. Emma Portner is gay, she only dates chicks, Geez.

:dunno

I do empathize with this. I've read about many marriages where the man comes out as a woman or the woman comes out as a man, and somehow they stay together...(typically they have children). I mean, if my "wife" wanted to say she's a dude and change how she dresses and such but retains breasts and a vagina and likes P in V I could see it sort of working out if I really loved them...but if they wanted a penis and to have sex with women, it won't work.

When she married Elliot Page she was a lesbian marrying a lesbian. There are no bad guys in the scenario of them breaking up.
