AFM make up race weekend choices

To clarify why you read the comments "run for the board" Shawnery, that's really a statement represented in Ernie's post. Members only have the ability (power) to vote for directors of the club. The real power to change/ affect change lies in the hands of board members and thus, the ability lies therein. When I suggest people "run for a board seat", that's not a statement aimed at passing the buck nor challenging them. I'm telling them that they are simply not empowered, as ordinary members, to see their vision through. Yes, if a member finds a friendly board member they can work through their plan with said board member, but they really don't control their own destiny and the second the board member becomes busy with another task or cold to the venture, the member is left out in the cold with no support. Power by proxy sucks, and that's why I joined the board...first trying to work through a board member and later, recognizing the flaws with that plan.

Some people will read my comments as an affront, but that really would be allowing their preconditioned emotions to control their action. My point is to encourage those who truly wish to care for the club to do so, though doing so with the best chance at success and in a position with the power to do so. Being a member sucks if you have a vision, direction or skill you want to contribute because it's dependent on the acceptance of, first, one elected director and later, under any board motion, the majority of elected directors. Having a term length seat at that table makes all the difference.

So that's why we're always told to go to board meetings if we have an idea or gripe. Seriously though, I actually appreciate it when the board members are candid, transparency always creates a more trusting environment.

Yup, you can affect change in the AFM by going to a meeting and having your ducks in a row. I've done it and many people have. It's just the way the system works.

Rob, the other answer/ solution when you cannot attend a meeting (and I've told this to members and related on this board over and over and over) is as a member, contact a board member to champion your idea or cause in your stead. There's 11 of us...so I'm sure if you can't find one board member to do so, it's probably a pretty shitty idea, cause, or issue. All of this can be done over the phone if needed, too.

There's plenty of transparency within the AFM, you just have to actually SPEAK to board members personally to get the full answer of what you wish for. That's really by design, done so near 50 years ago and it's not a bad design at all. That's because in person, conversations carry a different meaning, different weight and tone, where both people are able to actually communicate in a productive manner. BARF/ forums tend to miss alot of that due to the public spectacle element. People act as if the board hides things...we're just not that organized really to even be able to hide things, not to mention there's no reason to hide things from the membership. However, that said, it does take an effort on the members part to get their answers...but alot of those can be answered at race events as well.

The fact that for 50 years, the AFM has raced and continues to be able to race says something about the club. Yes, it has plenty of things that could use a modern touch, but that's a slow process and something the board has been working on for the last 6 years or so.

This. There used to be jokes about the "Bord", but truth is the members of the board seldom agree on the time of day or the month. It's far from perfect but it works ok.

No, I was referring to what a board member said on here. I live over 200 miles away so it would be a little nonsensical to drive 400 round trip to in the end make no difference for a club I'm beginning to sour on.

but yet you come to the races, where most BoD members are. Have you ever talked with one of us? I usually have a notebook with me and I DO take notes on the conversations I have with members and I DO follow up. I know for a fact that any one of us will have this type of conversation with you.
It's really not that hard to get a hold of us. All of our phone numbers and email addy's are in the rules book and on the web site. If you have something to say, it's easy to say it.

again, you are not limited to BoD meetings. Please feel free to send an email, make a phone call, or approach any one of us a a race event. Your input is incredibly valuable and desired.

I have ABSOLUTELY no say in the matter, but I can get much better pictures up at t-hill than down at bumpy weasel, and I don't have to worry about getting tossed out after a long drive for looking a bit like Joe. I think I am booked both weekends anyway, but that does not mean I do not care. If it does end up at buttonwillow, and I am able to get a ride down, all backside of the outside of turn two pictures are FREE! I will show up in a ghillie suit if needed.

Raise fees for out of stat residents-

Just like a California UC does for units...

Neil, thanks for the well wishes brother! We'll have an answer by the end of the weekend for everyone.

Glad to hear your doing better! Injuries suck ass! You'll have to fill me in on what you hurt when i see ya!
So, whats the veridct? I hope your gonna tell me its Buttonwillow! :teeth

Alway good to know where the "Good Clubs" are.

The AFM has a history of producing both National and World Champions. Maybe it is just the level of racing that goes on.

Who has the "Good Club" produced??

I think I was tired of this "game" back when it started. The amount of negativity in the RC isn't really helping anything...on BARF, at the AFM events or anywhere for that matter.

Who are we to say any one club is better than another. I'm proud of the AFM that I am part of, but you won't hear me putting down another club to promote mine.

Way back when, there used to be some very good club rivalries that existed. AFM North/South, ARRA, OMRRA, WERA. And it was always nice to be able to say, oh I club raced in AFM, and then hear the reply, oh that explains why you go so good, you guys (gals) have some fast riders out on the west coast.

just sayin....it's not always a negative to be competitive. But then again, I guess it comes down to intent :teeth

But come to think of it, I think that is the one element I feel is missing at the club races....fwiw

It was pretty obvious to me that EDR was fawkin around...

Apparently some didn't get it
