Alta motors ceases operations

It's not the best electric bike I've ridden but it is the best electric dirtbike I have ridden. I'd have to say the Energica is on the top of my list for a motorcycle.

Energica was a close second, but they were heavy.

Alta flat tracking would have been interesting.

Any news on the Monday announcement?

I guess, based on what the "CEO" said they still have a few days until an announcement is made.

Week 2 of the shutdown is over and out pretty much. So much for that Monday "announcement".

No announcement but no liquidation either.

Well, after 30+ years in tech and being part of five startups I kinda take the long view on stuff like this... sometimes good companies go away but good people and good technology generally always resurface somewhere.

There will be more electric motorcycles in the future and they will continue to go up in functionality and down in price.

So......
A couple of Mondays have passed by.
What's going on with Alta?

I have not heard anything yet. Oct 18 was the shutdown so Thursday will be three weeks. The rumors have nothing to do with reality, methinks.

perhaps the sad reality is, simply, that Alta is D.E.A.D........

Last rumor was Bombardier I think..? Alta makes the best stuff by far and there's no doubt that mfr's out there are making offers, so it's just a matter of coming to terms. If Alta is asking too much, then time is all it will take to reduce their demands until they align with an offer. If there are no decent offers, then the product could evaporate, but that seems less likely. So, we wait.

Floating face down tends to reduce bargaining leverage....

Ducati was shut down for a month in the '90s looking for funding. I believe they had other slow downs or full shut downs before the Texas Pacific Group got involved. Same for Aprilia in 2004 before being purchased by Piaggio. Funding issues aren't resolved overnight.

The ride may or may not be over for ALTA. No announcement about new funding but also no announcement about liquidation, IIRC.

Whatever happens its been an interesting effort by some people very dedicated to producing a good motorcycle.

Haha, it sure does, but there's some good stuff going for a buyer. First is...or should be..a huge saving on development cost. Second is that they picked one of the worst areas in the country for manufacturing, so there's an obvious path to reducing overhead, even more so if you already have a facility and can squeeze the product into an existing setup. At this point it's pretty turnkey. All the vendors are established, the product is refined enough to sell to the public, any $15/hr assembly person can build the things, just need to start buying parts and have a have a way to sell them.
