AMA NEW SCHEDULE

^^^ Thanks for the link. Worthwhile read.

Yeah it was OK. I liked the statement at the end.

More credit to the AFM would have been nice.. but you never know what is on the floor of the editors office.

More credit would have been nice, but the event success for us was great credit. This thing's a difficult road map for 2015 with so many questions in the air...

In this case you are stealing money directly from Teams hands due to the fact you aren't paying. Most of Dorna profits go to subsidizing sat teams and travel costs for the lower class teams.

Every race you don't pay, but use the product anyway, is no et you deprive teams.

Just bevause it's easy, doesbt make it right, or good for the sport.

Unfortunately the reality of 'copyright infringement' is not so simple. This is an overly simplified logic that assumes that the person infringing would otherwise be paying and does not take into account the positives that comes from exposure. The notion that 'infringing' takes money directly out of someone's pocket is patently false. The model of strictly controlling content leads to fewer views and less overall interest which means fewer people know or care so less people spend money on related products which does actually deprive deserving people of money. Free the databases and fuck Dorna and all you bishes who buy the motoGP pass for exorbitant rates are actually killing the sport. There I said it. :twofinger

I guess that model would mean everyone would be watching the free stuff we have here and the sport would be "off the hook"?

Free music, free movies, free racing, free beer, free donuts. Whoo-hoo! (In my best Homer S. voice).

AMA Pro Racing has joined the ranks of series with convoluted qualifying procedures announcing this new addition for the Superbike class: New AMA Pro SuperBike Final Qualifying Procedure to be Implemented at Road America

All AMA Pro SuperBike competitors will participate in Qualifying 1 and 2. The 12 fastest riders from the first two sessions advance to a third and final qualifying session immediately after. Those 12 riders will battle it out to set positions 1-12 on the provisional starting grid based solely on times in the final session.

No mention of how this will work for the two-day events like New Jersey or a weekend with limited track time like Laguna.

What's the value in this? make for closer racing?

"The new qualifying procedure has been geared to provide even more excitement for our fans," said Michael Gentry, Chief Operating Officer of AMA Pro Racing. "We look forward to seeing the top riders put on a great show for the fans at Road America."

Is qualifying even broadcast... oh wait, nevermind

and I've never seen people in stands to watch qualifying.

"I think it's a really cool format, and I like that it's similar to the way final qualifying is done in World Superbike and MotoGP," said three-time AMA Pro SuperBike champion Josh Hayes

I wasn't aware this was how WSBK and MotoGP do it?

You got me. If they had managed to sell it to a sponsor as the "Acme Widgets Superbike Qualifying Blah Blah", I would give some credit but to add another session seems silly. Its not like we there is any question who is going to make up the first two rows.

MotoGP and WSBK have something similar but all it does, IMO, is push some drama to a later session rather than add any excitement to earlier sessions.

Want people to watch qualifying? Run heat races.

in motogp, the top ten riders from free practice 1-3 (of 4) are entered in q2. Q1 is run with the remained, with the top 3 riders from q1 moving up to Q2 where grid slots 1-12 are set

This - they can be 8-12 lap sprint races
Would a format like SuperCross work for you folks, with the "last chance qualifier", and all? AMA use to be heat races for just about everything. I think this was so locals could run with national dudes, if they were relatively fast enough.

There aren't enough entrants for as many preliminary races as SX or flat track. Two practice sessions, one qualifying session to set heat race grids and two heats to set the grid. More racing for fans.

One thing AMA Pro Racing has done right is provide a good product on the track. The racing is exciting so find a way to add more racing. There is a reason this format works for SX and flat track.
