AMA NEW SCHEDULE

spectating at a track without TVs severely reduces the pleasure factor

I'm pretty picky about where I sit, including wanting one placed opposite my grandstand

dunno about DORNA replacing AMA Pro Road racing - I'm all for it

Sure, but it beats nothing. Laguna is s good place to watch though compared to most tracks, especially if you go up the hill a ways

The m/c roadracing audience is too small for free tv. I dropped comcast tv when speedtv turned into Foxsports, then got the Motogp online package which is a better deal anyway. Interviews, Moto2 & 3, ATF, onboard camera videos, daily news. I love it. Got the new WSBK package this year as well.

No reason Dorna couldn't do that as well for the US series and offer ppv for people who don't want the subscription.

thats a very good point. without the volume, other entities are less likely to support the cost of a TV broadcast. someone has to pay for it and it could be the viewers.

really, ive been fine with paying for watching motorcycle racing as long as the quality is there. unfortunately, the quality of any AMA/DMG RR content is not even close to a level that i would pay for.

Yea but if they had the WSBK crew and commentators doing it, I'd pay per view that as a single event.

I guess the Yoshimura Suzuki team suspected something we all didn't when they decided not to attend the Laguna Race (it was announced too late by the AMA, I was told during Sonoma Superbike Shootout, to squeeze it into their travel schedule http://yoshimura-racing.com/home/events/)

So now all the teams who drove their RIG cross country from Barber to then drive them back to Mid-Ohio get NO TV COVERAGE, there better be a riot by the teams at the track! Completely unacceptable!!!!!

The AMA Laguna date was announced in March during the Daytona 200 weekend. The entry list for Laguna shows Cardenas, Hayden and Carter as entered for the Superbike class so I'm guessing Yosh will be there.

Only 16 entries for Superbike after Pegram and Ulrich decided to race WSBK. :(

DSB has 35 entries. Field is larger than usual because there is no AMA 600 Supersport race at Laguna and many SS riders are eligible for both classes.

14 entries for the XR1200 class.

NorCal racers in all three classes.

And AMA confirms no FansChoice coverage for this round.

Round 4 of the AMA Pro Road Racing series from the FIM Superbike World Championship, Geico Motorcycle U.S. Round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will not be available for live broadcast on FansChoice.tv or post-race viewing.

AMA Pro Racing engaged in good faith negotiations with the event's rights holder, but, ultimately, was unable to reach an agreement in the best interest of all parties involved.

I'm not sure who is pulling the strings on this video coverage debacle for AMA Pro Racing. If Dorna is willing to use hardball tactics because they are considering their own North American series, then that doesn't bode well for the future. What kind of negotiations can tracks, teams or sponsors expect to encounter?

If the AMA Pro Racing really did either screw up or didn't pay Dorna (seems more believable than Dorna conspiracy) then that is just another unforgivable move by AMA Pro Racing. Its seems really chickenshit to know there won't be coverage and promise it in a press release (2013) and even worse to do the same thing again this year. Grrrr.

And how does any of this help the racers or the fans?

i dont have a hard time believing the RRW article saying that AMA Pro owes Dorna money for a 2013 event. thats not hardball, thats good business practices.

I don't have a hard time with it either...at all.

However, AMA Pro Road Racing is claiming they made "good faith negotiations" so I'm trying to be fair to both sides.

itd be hilarious if AMA Pro's debt to Dorna seals the deal for the death of the series. i wonder how much $ AMA Pro is actually profiting these days. with only 5 1/2 rounds to charge their competitors and the tracks, i cant imagine theyve got a lot of revenue coming in.

oh, "good faith negotiations" usually require a "good faith payment" to actually mean anything. i wouldnt be surprised if AMA Pro forgot that last part.

let's get dirty with AMA Pro:

Marc Marquez - Grand Marshal at The Indy Mile

".....Márquez and [Champ Brad] Baker will participate in a special champions question-and-answer session before the crowd during opening ceremonies at the 2014 Indy Mile. Plans also call for video footage of the Márquez and Baker Barcelona duel to be shown on the Jumbotron screens in front of the main grandstand as the riders talk about the experience.

"I am so excited about this opportunity," Márquez said. "I love dirt-track, and it will be my second time watching it on the circuit. I looking forward to being there with all of the American fans during Indy GP."

"I always get excited every year for the Indy Mile/GP weekend," Baker said. "This year is extra special for me after meeting a lot of the GP riders and experiencing the mutual respect between the two sports. Marc is a super-cool guy and an amazing motorcycle rider on the pavement as well as the dirt. I'm really looking forward to visiting with him again."
....."

RRW said:
According to people with knowledge of the deal, there was no TV coverage of the AMA Pro races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in September because AMA Pro Racing owed Dorna money. In short, AMA Pro Racing did not pay Dorna what it had agreed to pay to get video from the MotoGP weekend in July.

As of post time, AMA Pro Racing still had not settled its debt from last year with Dorna.

reads like the debt may go further back then 2013...

AMA Pro to allow the top 15 SS riders to race up a class at Laguna (DSB)

http://amaproracing.com/rr/news/index.cfm?cid=60625

well that will make things interesting in the middle 1/3

With no SuperSport race during Round 4 of the AMA Pro Racing, which is running in conjunction with the FIM Superbike World Championship, Geico Motorcycle U.S. Round , the series is inviting the top 15 competitors in the current point standings top compete within the GoPro Daytona SportBike race. Kaleb De Keyrel, Jason Aguilar, Miles Thornton, Andre Ochs and Erick Sanchez each took the opportunity to test their skills against GoPro Daytona SportBike competition.
