AMA NEW SCHEDULE

I don't know Laguna's contract arrangements, but the reason that the 125s and 250s didn't originally come back to Laguna was because it was against California law to race the two-strokes.

What?

someone brought up a good point over on the WERA forum. with so few races on the calendar and large caps in the calendar, we lose interest. its silly to have a season that lasts from March to Sept when there are only a handful of rounds. AMA Pro needs both a shorter season and more rounds. who's going to stay interested if we cant have 1 race every few weeks. AMA SX and MX race practically every weekend it seems. AMA RR should be able to race every 2 or 3 weeks to keep fans interested.

Laguna is on Public Park Land, and CARB regulations were/are in place to restrict two-stroke use to certain parks at certain times of the year. There is no use of Fort Ord for motorized vehicles, other than the Raceway. Technically, any two-stroke running at Laguna, could be pulled off and cited. I don't know if that has ever happened, but it could. Some forget that Laguna Seca is a park.

That regulation is for trail riding. Doesn't apply to race bikes on a race track. We've been through this with the park system many times for supermoto and flat track. There was no legal restriction to having 125GP or 250GP at Laguna Seca for the GP the weekend.

When MotoGP came back to Laguna in 2005, the AMA was the support show, per the deal AMA and Laguna had worked out…AMA had the long history or regular attendance and MotoGP lower tier teams balked at the expense of going to the US. Don't forget, Europe wasn't in the best shape at the time.

The AMA races drew a large crowd…really large actually. That was when Sears AMA races would draw a large crowd. Up through 2008, the crowd was pretty darn large for AMA at Laguna…so really, the support races were not the problem. Even on the AMA days, the crowd was significant.

Well, we can kill that information from the memory banks. I was pretty sure Dan Murphy of RPM said something along those lines before the County took over promotion of Moto Racing from him. That was almost ten years ago, so maybe I don't remember so good.

Indeed ... 20-30k strong for ama

Once the economy tanked and dmg told everyone to fuck off... many found other things to do. Including sponcers. What some don't understand is, it really wasn't all that long ago when ama was the show. But in that short period of time all the fans and now the teams have left.

Yeah, back in 2004-2005 AMA was really fun to watch, by 2008 I found watching reruns of Threes Company more entertaining. Mr Roper's jokes were more consistent than the rule book too.

Maybe in YOUR world, but in the real world, people make choices on how they spend their money. There are lots of cheaper ways to be entertained than a motorcycle race. Prices do matter.

They matter to me. I took JUST tickets and parking for COTA, because the VIP packages were outrageous to me. They started at $850. F' me. Would you pay that? I always do some VIP at Laguna - for one half the price.

I don't know Laguna's contract arrangements, but the reason that the 125s and 250s didn't originally come back to Laguna was because it was against California law to race the two-strokes. Moto2 started in '10, and in '12 Moto3 started. They may have to come together, and Laguna may have already had '13 contracted out. I don't know. There are other issues, but don't assume that SCRAMP left out those classes because they wanted to do so.

That is not likely to happen. The track is barely safe enough for AFM. And even a stock liter bike is starting to get stupid out there. I like the track, but a WSBK guy would be shifting like three, maybe four, times an entire lap. :laughing

Hahaha and yet you still bought tickets. Tiered pricing isnt just for kicks its to provide a certain level of luxury for those that want it and for those who can do without. I wouldn't dare purchase a vip pass I'd rather spend more money haul a trailor, camp and all the other shit. The fact is you and I are still going to cota next year dispite ticket prices.

I'm holding out for AMA Pro joining SBK at Laguna Seca

if they do, then EBRacing may be representing in both series.....

AMA Pro Racing just worked with Mid-Ohio to make schedule change so they no longer have a conflicting date with Laguna WSBK for 2014. However, that doesn't mean that AMA at Laguna is a done deal. It just makes it a step closer.

As for Miller. Miller couldn't support WSBK so unlikely they could support anymore stand alone AMA weekends. The Yamaha school is being liquidated, too. Seems like once the old man died, the track started ditching all the big events. I understand its a great facility but its too far from major population centers. The only big event on Miller's list is the Lucas Oil MX race. No big auto racing events. Just a bunch of club races. Looks more like the fault of track management than AMA Pro Racing.

Miller just released their 2014 schedule of events: http://www.millermotorsportspark.com/more/news.html

No AMA.

Sonoma is long gone, now no Miller or Laguna. AMA will not race West of the Mississippi next season?

sweet, my event is on that page.

i have a feeling that AMA is still working on dates. they moved their Mid-Ohio date so it didn't conflict w/ WSBK @ Laguna. so id bet they are planning on joining there. hopefully they are still working on Miller too.

What is your event stangmx13?
