"AR15s are like rice rockets"

They're cheap, they're plentiful, and they're easy. What's not to like about them? Because my rifle doesn't break down into a million different obscure parts means I shouldn't shoot it?

Why did the US military move away from the .308 and 30.06 rounds? I've always heard weight and recoil. I really don't know the reason.

I'm pretty sure I can still break the posted legal limit with that ^

I think you and I have grossly different definitions of underpowered. If I can't crank the throttle while I am splitting lanes and smoke 4 wheeled traffic that is rolling in clusters at 80mph, it is underpowered to me.

I could be wrong, but I'm assuming the term "rice rocket" was directed at the four-wheeled Folgers can exhaust pre-pubescent mustache crowd.

After carrying an M16A2 for 4 years the last thing I want to own is one of those piles. The mall ninjas at the range with their 40# ARs make me laugh since most of the ones I've seen can barely hit the paper at 100yds. I like my Garands and 03 Springfields much better. I guess ARs have their place, just not in my home. I guess it is like a hardly that way.

Whereas some of us prefer lightweight guns, my current favorite is under 7lb with a red dot, MBUS, long-ish free float handguard, etc. It's easily adequate for plinking steel out past 100.

Is the 5.56mm underpowered? Depends.

Excellent read here:

I didn't read the link.

IMHO:

The idea was two fold, one you could carry almost twice the rounds as a soldier with an AK. Second, in conventional battles, wounding an opponent causes more damage to local resources to remove a wounded soldier from a hot zone.

I think it depends on what you're trying to do. I really like an AK with semi-auto for rapid fire, multiple target engagement within 25 yards. It feels good, swings from target to target nicely, moves very naturally and doesn't seem to slow me down when switching shoulders to clear corners. Those big ol' meatball hurlers are a joy to shoot at the range and I wouldn't doubt to count on one for a sniper engagement, but I wouldn't want to carry one in the thick of the shit as my solo bolo.

Do you really believe a Garand or a Springfield is a better battle rifle than an AR?

I could almost see a FAL being a better option but a Garand?

Having used an M16 tactically, yes I would rather have a garand or Springfield. I think thats the difference between me and mall ninjas, I've actually done the stuff they masturbate about doing and why I find them ridiculous. To each his own, doesn't mean I'm not gonna laugh at them every time just like I do the guys that drop 20k on a hardly then another 8-10k to make it hit 100mph.

Some of us would argue that none of those are Battle Rifles. I suppose an M1A is the civilian version of one, though.

Show me an underpowered "rice rocket."

That guy who wrote that must ride a Busa. :laughing

But it does have some truth to it. Every guy I know who owns an AR has some type of optics, foregrip, P-Mags, flash hider, etc. etc. etc. Just gimmie some iron sites and call it a day lol.

"The greatest battle implement ever devised" (Garand) George Patton.

The Garand is the Glock of battle rifles.
