The 6.8SPC makes a great hunting cartridge. Like a .270.
I think hunting with an AR just looks wrong though. The challenge of hunting deer with iron sights vice a $1000 scope makes it a wee bit more challenge.

I hunt deer with my Benchmade Reptilian. First I sneak up to the deer and then pick a fight. I hit him with my nut chucklers or whatever they are called. Then, using my 4th Dan Aikido skilz, put them in a joint lock and stab them.
Firearms are for pussies who have spotless records because of their tendency toward pacifism allows them to pass background checks.
In the 1000s of fight I have had with deerz, I have never lost.

Sanjuro, is that you?!

AR platform can be chambered in over sixty different calibers. You want to try again?

:rolleyes

I'm fully aware that it can be chambered in many different calibers. That doesn't mean the majority of owners have it setup for anything than .223. Feel free to do your own research on your customer base. :twofinger

A cruiser is not a dirt bike just because you take it down a dirt road. A Prius is not ideal nor intended for off-roading (whether O'Nick could make it work or not). The AR-15 is a target-plinking squirrel gun to me. Unlike you, I've actually had to use one full time and I'm not interested in the sales of the rifle. As far as I'm concerned, the AR's time has come and gone. I swear the rise of the popularity of the thing is largely due to Call of Duty and the like. It's certainly not the best weapon available nor is it even a true battle rifle.

Jason, you may want to talk to people who's way older than you or me and who were buying, accessorizing and using those rifles way before COD creators graduated from kindergarten.

See screenname. Apparently we've never met in person :laughing. And it's more for when I'm on my moto going to the range. Believe it or not people are capable of identifying a rifle case slung across your back on the freeway.

Was talking about my beer belly man. :laughing

What the hell does that have to do with the price of rice in China? The platform is dated. There are far superior actual battle rifles available. The Chief of Ordnance is sticking with their data for the reasons previously discussed. I partly imagine that another large facet of the refusal to change is the lack of American-made candidates. That and politics.

In NC here an AR with the proper .556 or .223 cartridge will take anything down you want to hunt.

Got plenty of boar meat in the fridge all taken with .556 AR's. Very popular rifle for boar hunting.

Ar15 is a great hunting rifle.

I know I'm going to catch hell but the most fun I've had recently was with my buddies Keltec SU-16CA...Its a cheap, ugly little rifle, but its just so much fun! And it ran what ever we loaded into it without a single hiccup the whole day!

Outside of a lever action scout rifle this is right in my sweet spot as far my finances are concerned. That SOCOMII is literally unobtanium. As the resident gun guru on BARF I wonder if RRR70 has gotten a chance to shoot one of these? I'd be very interested to hear what he has to say about them.

I've been trying to lift this one off my friend but hes NEVER going to let it go. He says its his AR's backup in case some thing happens. And he shoots better with the Keltec...LMAO.

You do that with an AR-15? Wow.
Of course, your talk proves my point.
The AR-15 is for talking.

No brag. I can do the same with my M1A SuperMatch, Loaded or my bolt guns. It's not the arrows, it's the Indian. My target AR15s are fine shooting precision rifles. If you like other guns, no problem but THE choice in National Match winning rifles is the AR15 or AR15 based rifles.

I built my AR for dedicated .22LR target practice.

I can't pull two pins, change magazines and switch an AK or SKS or any other rifle and turn it into a 5.56 or .300.

Eugene Stoner is right up there with John Browning

I've got optics that are now more expensive than my SU16 :p But for a piston driven 5.56, it works just fine. Eats crappy Soviet leftover ammo and survives even failures to clean the piston. 50 yds puts 10 rounds (stupid CA) well within a "minute of bad guy" offhand all day. Not bad for under $400 when I got it back in 06.
