hey redtail-nice paint work. The earlier thread mentions you'd painted it? Woulda be up for a commision to do another?

oh, and Datadan, I think you should ride the rc30 to the bbq :grin
I remeber when those came out and lusted after one. Still want one!

Thanks Tanstaafl26! I did all the paint myself, but I used my fathers equipment and he lives in Minneapolis! So I don't really have the stuff to do another bike out here, but hopefully in a year or two I will have a suitable compressor and space to paint. The most important part is to thing of sanding as meditation. Where did you get those frame sliders from? I've been looking for a set but haven't been able to find any universal sets.

I got them from Hiperform. Their website is almost as good as their race bike. I asked for the standard size, which turned out to be about 6 inches. I've since cut them down so that there is less of a chance of a leverage break off. They are sticking out just enough to take the pressure off of the cases and after my asphalt inspection, they didn't lever the frame mount at all.

Dooooooode, I want that subframe and undertail exhaust that you'll see on the site. I've seen one on the 'net with a battery box.

anyway, here's the site: www.hiperform.com

The sliders come with the new engine bolt that goes from one frame down rail to the other and the required nuts/washers. Just tourqe it to the same settings per the Hawk Manual. I'll look it up if you've not gotten a manual yet.

Regarding the paint issue, when I did the front fender I was trying to be zen about it. And I was, right up until a) I discovered that there were 4 layers of seperate colors and b) I drank one to many budwiesers. So I got lazy and the cold weather didn't help.

I want my bike to be black, black, black with a blue tint/clear coat so it's got a blue sheen in sunlight.

rubber down, hawk up!

I love rod holland. Hiperform is a great company and they do great business. I just wish their damn ducati raffle happened :)

So heres the deal guys. I am up to do this ASAP, but my steering head is lunched. Any of you experienced when it comes to installing new bearings and all that? i am scared to death of doing it myself and having to deal with this all over again...looks like you need special tools...

Anybody? I have chatter, chatter, chatter.

Herp:

my buddy who did my front end swap is teaching me how to do fork seals today. He knows cbr's inside and out. I know that the tapered bearings simply "dropped in" on my F2 front end. It took alot of careful tapping to do the job. More details this afternoon.

Great job on the Hawk! I love Hawks!

And by the way... When you get the chance Kenzo, please introduce yourself at the Newbies section so that people could welcome/know you. Just formalities. THANKS!

Welcome to BARF! You'll love it here!

Finally an answer to the steeringhead issue: The technical word my friend used for getting the races out was "Pound". The tapered bearings come with new races. Just be careful of the frame too....

Good luck !

Sooooo. Looks like ride/bbq will not be happening in the near future. I got some tasty metal object impacting head and shoulder action at work, and wont be riding for a while...so the hawk gets to go get some TLC at the shop for a bit. Will post here when things might be on again, if it doesnt get too nasty weatherwise.

Hey thanks Tanstaafl26 I'll check out hiperform about those frame sliders. I think black looks fantastic on the Hawk - all mean and just buisness. If you want a nice blue tint in the sun you could do a black base coat then a blue pearly metal flake then the clear. I think that would look great! I saw something on the Hawklist about a ride out of San Joser on Saturday - any of you guys going?

Hey all! What follows is somewhat rambling........

Wow, just starting to recover from the day up at Sears with the CLASS school for my third track day and first there. You all will be happy to know that the Hawk went just fine; Especially on the outside around 'busas, mille's, tuono's various ujsp's and quite a few duc's. My knee was down consistently for the first time in a few turns. Working on the Carosel next. Oh to have a 700cc motor.

I had a great running pass and repass battle all afternoon with another barfer on a 900ss. Super fun. We came off of the track with huge grins each time. For some reason I was feeling more comfortable that usual and aside from a close to lowside in T7, I didn't have any of the "oh crap where do I let off the brakes" moments.

Going around at a good pace (For me) on the least inexpensive and on what was possibly the lowest powered bike there made all the work and $ worthwhile. Or at least stroked my ego the right way. It was B group after all.

I blasted all of my baffling out of the muzzy so it's not streetable until I repack it. It's straight pipe loud-I think I pissed a few commuters off as I split lanes back to the city...... It came as a result of the motor being twisted from 6 to 9 grand all freaking day :smoking Hello mr rev limiter. The cheapo fork seals started leaking. They lasted, oh, two days. Off to order honda parts again. <I hate Golden Gate Cycles in the city>.
anyway, I wrote up a post on the trackday forum.

Redtail: thanks for the paint advice. I knew the look but not how to go about it. Unfortunately, I can't go for a ride this weekend as I have a parental (Read: anti-motorcycle) visit this weekend. They are in fact trying to bribe my brother and I with a Formula Ford for bike/sale/trade.

btw, a raceable vintage FF is about 10 grand. My step dad has a '72 Darren vintage 2.0 lite sports racer that he and my brother are campaining at Laguna two weekends from now.

Anyway, I'll be posting a pic or two when they come up on the website.

Have fun everyone and maybe a hawk track day/bbq when herpantes gets his hawk sorted?

Also, if you all like to play in the snow, come up and see me at Kirkwood on the weekends. I'll give you snowboard lessons if you're interested.

here's the thumb list. It's been growing over the day as he post's more.

One of me is pic 668F9109 bike's white fender, blue tank, red cowl. There are probalby another 15 of me so far.

Glad you liked it Herp. I'm still stoked! My favorite memory is coming outta 10 in 5th @ 7.5k and re-passing my buddy who was stuck behind 4 other slower riders-My mental image of late braking past everyone (they seemed to be going backward) and then dropping into turn 11, touching the knee all the way round the corner and past them is stuck in my head.

Of course none of that happend in the A group. :laughing I think I got past a couple but that was on warm tires as I was doing back to back sessions.

Finally able to post a pic of my hawk...

Mapes! Veeerrryyyy nice. I gotta ask-what front fender do you have installed?

Damm, so many nice hawks. Mine's a rat in disguise.

Heh it''s funney you ask... Its an air tech f3 fender the same as stock only out fiberglass. Just last night I took my dremel to it cause the normal f3 fender is so big it looks like a damn wheel diper on the hawk. Just took my time and cut it down to how I wanted it. It came out pretty good. I had Jojo at Speed Shop SC customize my sub frame. However I swapped a f4i tail light and I need to wire that up. Oh and I got mess with the pilot jets. They're off. Anyways thanks for the compliments.

So I got another funney story bout the hawk. So I got my rotors back from Gerry piaza (sp) who straightened them for me. Even though it was dark I'm like damn I wanna take it for a spin to see if the rotors pulse at all. Well my tail lights are not fuctional but, I thought it will only be for a second. So I jump on the bike and spin up Grahmn Hill road. Sure enuff I see CHP and he turns around. I'm thinking doh!!! He pulls me over to tell me that .....my tail light is out. I played dumb I didn't wanted be like " I know officer and btw I'm a jack ass"! He was cool ran my info (which btw I didn't have on me) and let me go. The cool thing bout my hawk is when ever I'm stopped by a cop they're always looking at going "man wtf is this thing...it's cool but what is it"?
