BARF HawkGT, RC-31, NT650, BROS, whatever owners

I was thinking about the dremmel tool option. I got rid of my VW's airdam that way for better snow bank bashing.

Any of the Hawkers interested in the dpschool Nov 11 (?) at Sears? I'm sorley tempeted and a few of the other barf'rs are attending.

It's the first Sears open day and the last for awhile. The pavement is feaking smooooooooooth.

Hawk and injury update

Ok first the hawk.

As ya know, currently:

'88 red, M4 full low mount, Factory 3.0 and pods, F4 front end, braided stainless rear line through swingarm, Fox TC shock, rearset adapters, polished frame and swinger.

So, heres what has happened since the injury (or is happening):

SV650 fuel pump (vacuum vs. electric, much smaller - THANKS LOCO!), Galfer braided stainless lines for the front, AFAM 520 conversion with an assortment of rear sprockets, Hiperform chain roller (polished bracket) and frame sliders, polished rearset adapters and rearsets, M4 low mount to high mount conversion, lightened rear rotor, and the kicker:

I bought a Hawk Connection (aka Motomorphic) aluminum racing subframe (weighs as much as an average turd) and a fiberglass RC-531 tail. Someone needs to buy it. I decided against going with a front fairing and the tail is too wide for a naked bike. If anyone is considering going with a front fairing, please buy it. Make an offer. I payed over $300 and havent touched it. It would look awesome with RC-45 or RVF400 front bodywork. Tail is almost identical to an RC-51 (thats what they used for the mould).

As far as the injury, my head is fine again, but my shoulder is really fucked up. The separation is not healing, and the rotator cuff is pretty fucked up. I am getting steroid and local anesthetic injections and we are hoping to avoid surgery.

Hope all is well in hawkland, and I should have some pics up soon.

You guys are killing me! Tooooo many nice things to do to the Hawks. Polished this, that. If it doesn't snow soon, I'm going to piss my allocated toy money this winter on the hawk and not snowboard stuff. Of course the surf was FUN sat and sun. mmmm south swell.........

Herpantes, Where are you getting the vacum from to operate the fuel pump? Are you also getting rid of the fuel pump relay switch? I've read about some of the guys putting their pumps under the tank? Does your subframe have a battery box yet?

And finally, saw your thread regarding woodcraft rearsets. I'm using some adapter plates that are up 1 3/4"and back an inch; Are you getting rearsets for adjustability, different offset or to clean up that area? If you're not sure about how high to go, I don't think that with proper throttle usage in the corners you'd need to go higher than the 1 3/4. Especially if you've raised the rear alot.

New pipe coming today from Muzzy, so maybe I'll start catching up in the bling-bling shiny dept.......

Hope your shoulder heals. Get some physical therapy asap. I've got a torn labrum and the PT really helped avoid the knife.

And to all of us Hawkers, it would be cool to get together for a ride and toy oogling.

The vacuum is coming off the nipple underneath the carbs. On the cylinder side. The rearsets are just a must have. I am sick to death of the stock assemblies, and I too have jackup plates. Trying to save as much weight as possible. I am going to be modifying the jackup plates to adds extra adjustability to the woodcrafts as well.

Blah. Gotta go work. More later.

Drive sprocket cover? Ewwww. I tossed mine an eon ago and i have no intention of adding so much weight.

I am doing my JE's soon. How does it feel on the ass-dyno?

I am also trying to decide which cams go in next month, and I am going to be running 2 #3 ZX-10 carbs, as I will NOT pony up on flatslides.

hi all, new to the forum. I am in the process of building up an 89' hawk for track use and hopefully AFM (assuming money and time permit). I know the hawk isn't as competative with the SV's but they are just so much fun to ride and the change direct sooo quickly!

List of modifications so far
1 - r1 front end set-up by aftershox
2 - brembo calipers, rotors, and lines
3 - fox twin rear
4 - modified spindle to accept ducati rear wheel
5 - ducati three spoke
6 - carbon tank :chuci
7 - jim davis subframe and rc51 look fairings
8 - 700 kit with stock carbs and uni-filters
9 - misc. crap

Much, much more to come.

Anyhow, any performance tips from the NT650 experts would be greatly appreciated.

Pix to follow :staRang

the pvc pipe you see is to test clearance for exhaust pipe and megahpone. here's another....

If anyone wants one of those tails, and the associated featherweight aluminum subframe, I currently have a brand new set available, $280.00

Tanstaafl26 - I am considering signing up for the CLASS school at Laguna Seca on Nov. 28th. Unfortunately, due to the restrictions, the hawk will not be out that day, as it is far to loud with the current megaphone. :mad Instead, I will have my r6 out there.

I will definately keep ya'll updated on the hawk's progress.

Wow logan! That is quite the trackday hawk. What kind of headpipes are you using with that exhaust system? The duc rear wheel is a 180 section right? Even with all those mods it's still not competitive with the SV? My bro has a 2000 SV and I think the hawk turns much much better.

Redtail - currently, it has a supertrapp header which flows into a single 2" pipe. The old set-up had a 3 1/2" megaphone attached which was loud as $hit and painful at 8000 rpms.

The duck rear is a 17" by 5.5" and usually accepts a 180, but I have been running a 165 rear slick. The thinner tire allows the bike to change directions very quickly and with the current configuration of the motor, there isn't enought HP for uncontrolled wheel spin while exiting corners.

Compared to the SV, I think the hawk turns in quicker and doesn't drift through corners like some SV's that I have tried out. But the SV has more top end and will pull down the straights. The hawk has more feedback and is more forgiving if pushed to hard.

What it comes down to is rider skill, and I have very little of that :laughing

what?! an R1 front clip? i've never ever seen that before. please tell me all about it. how much was the install did you have to machine etc etc etc.... :teeth

Stillart: For some odd reason any and all front end swaps are soooo easy on hawks. For my F4 swap, I didnt even need the steering stem press/swap. Just swap bearings and torque it down. Things might be a little different as I am going to be swapping a 748 front end on (mostly for the front wheel).

So far I have seen hawks with the following front ends:

RC-51, GSXR-750, R1, R6 (apparently the best for the hawk), F2, F3, WP (woowoo trick), RC-30 (quick release axle clamps make me tingle), 636, GSXR-1000, F4, F4i, RVF-750, VFR, RGV-250, RVF-400, and perhaps the trickest, Ohlins Road and Track.

Now someone buy my tailsection and subframe so I can buy wheels.

Logan:

If you want to run with the SV's, you are going to need flatslides for your top end. Helps quite a bit. Talk to JD Hord about epoxy porting the heads too. Excellent gains. Also, Megacycle x-8 cams and at least a 663 kit from JE to bump compression. Go to www.cycletech.net for all these parts, they do not come cheaper anywhere.

When you get really crazy, make sure you are running an M4 exhaust, then use 2 rear heads in front of a front and a rear. requires machining.

I think that epoxy porting, flatslides, cams, compression, rear/rear head, overbore, oversize valves, and the associated bits will get you around 80hp. Unless you run a falicon crank ($2000+), and carillo rods, it will blow up every two races.

This is the problem:
