That's funny how you bought a gun based on a myth: stopping power. :twofinger

Penetration + permanent cavity and you're good to go, lucky for you .40S&W is pretty good at both ;)

May I ask how much?

Myth....uhm, yeah.....ok whatever. Odds are that a 9mm would probably be just as effective at "stopping" a person as a .40 but if the shot placement is not right the 9mm may not "stop" them on the first shot. You are much more likely to stop a person on the first shot with a larger caliber.

The cost was about $440 plus tax.

Now, what do you mean by "stop." If you're talking about some "force" of impact, I've already done the math, it doesn't add up :laughing

If you're calling stopping power a function of penetration and permanent cavity, as a way of causing enough physical damage to bodily systems, then I can agree that's definitely not a myth.

It's just that I've heard the term "stopping power" and "knock-down power" used interchangably

so like, was that real training, or some tactical posers prancing around in the woods. that ar looked funny, ff tube and ss barrel, looked like something straight out the varmint series of a gun

i dont mean to bithc and critisize cuz id probably do the same thing, but dont you think they should have popup targets instead o just some fucking cardboard laying around.

Anybody interested in checking out the Garand Match on June 5th?

http://www.zouaves.org/2005/2005_Garand.pdf

If you're interested in shooting, let me know and I'll sign you up as my guest. My club (SCVRC.com) has M1 Garands you can borrow for free. Ammo is included in the $25 fee for the match.

Dates are:

10:00AM May 15th @ 200yd Range Metcalf for practice and instruction if you're borrowing a Garand and/or shooting a Garand for the first time.
...

so, borrowed a club rifle, shot it really well, then forgot to write down the serial number :bash (I think I remember enough so that I can figure out which one it was and use that one for the match) argh

Anyway, for those that are gonna shoot this, definetly bring a hat (forgot mine and my nose is pretty sunburned) and wear a long sleeve shirt, since you'll be shooting prone. Also, no water etc on site, so bring plenty of water, etc. A chair might be a handy thing to bring along as well, even for just resting the rifle on between shots on the standing portion. Also having a pair of gloves will be helpful for dealing with the sling.

Great fun.

Went to Metcalf this weekend to make some noise:

Man, shooting is expensive. $50 worth of .40, $35 of 7.62x39, and $15 of 7.62x54R, + $30 range fees...yeah...fuck...I kinda wish I'd stayed home and watched TV :cry :( $7 in my bank account :banana

Ha, that is getting cheap young padawan. Not a hobby to get into if you think about how much you pay for everything. :D

Yea, sorry I flaked, but I didn't get to bed until 5AM that morning. I didn't get up until 2PM. :laughing I didn't have any newbies to handhold anyway and I figured you can take care of yourself with the club guys.

This sunday the 22nd, bring out your hardware, because Richmond Rod and Gun is hosting the bimonthly Richmond Long Gun match. Basically it's 3gun without the pistol.

Shoot 10am-3pm
Divisions = Open Tactical Limited and HM
6 stages minimum (at least two combo stages)
Rifle shooting out to 225 yards.

All you need to compete is a 20 ga or better shotgun, and a centerfire magazine fed rifle.
Mossberg and AK, works. Remington 1187 and AR, works. Perazzi and Win 1894, works in a pinch.

My friends and I will be there, don't miss it.

There's a cure for that but it'll cost you up front. I've got 1000 rounds of .40 down to $67.

Since the AW ban bit the dust, I picked up several 15rnd mags for my G22. Needless to say, I've been running low on .40.
