BARF Militia

We can't shoot at the barn anymore because developments have come so close they call the rangers complaing about a war going on nearby. :laughing

I hate to say it, but you wouldn't have to shoot so much if you could hit it! :laughing

Seems like you're kinda partial to the Glocks (which is fine, btw), but I would recommend trying the Sig 226/229, as well. I've shot them a few times and love the feel and performance of their handguns. And, as Miran mentioned, you would easily have the ability to swap in the .357 barrel.

Man- this thread is a monster. sorry if this has been covered...

I am looking to pick up a .40 cal pistol... I am leaning towards Glock (my glock 30 sold me on glocks forever), but I thought I'd get some barf militia opinions.

Are you still going to Chabot tomorrow, Zeff?

Yep. I'll be at the 200 yard range from about 12-2:30, then heading over to the handgun range to break in my Robar treated guns.

I'll keep an eye out for you.

I'm looking like Tommy Chong again. So, look for the dirtbag hippy with guns.

:laughing

A man in his 50's decided to build a 50 cal from scratch. Milled his barrel and did all the welds himself (????) and went to the range to try it out. This is a range like you would see at military base, flat with just a brume in the back to stop the rounds.

So mister cool decides to drive his new vette to try out the gun he built. Gets there, no test fire for him the snap caps work just fine in the gun. So he fires the first round and is so happy, as it was just as he planned it to be. He then fires off the second round with the same success and very pleased with his work, and tell others about it and wants them to see him fire the gun he built. With the few people there that day watching he gets ready for his third shot, that's where he has a little problem.

With him wanting to look to 'cool' with his gun and the crowd around, he makes sure his vette is behind him so they can get it in the picture of him firing his gun. He pulls the trigger, the round fires but the bolt and the casing broke one of his welds, before going through his shoulder and through the passenger door of his new vette.

To the next day, he no longer has a right arm, since it was so damaged. But on the plus side the vette is an automatic, so he can still play with it.:teeth

I'm not one to laugh at other people's misfortune but....

:laughing :laughing :laughing :laughing

I hope this wasn't his first home made gun cause if it was it's really brilliant to pick a cartridge that produces more energy then any other small arms cartridge by atleast double.

All thx for the advice on the .40s.

where are you guys shooting?

I'll go- and I'll bring my .45 and .357.

We'll be at the Chabot shooting range. If you haven't been there, there's directions and stuff in this thread:
http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=144140

And back on the subject of the Glock .40 - what finally turned me on to glocks was an article by an ourdoorsman about which gun he relies on in the wilderness. He chose the Glock because it's absolutely unbreakable. No hammer, no extra levers, nothing. It doesn't matter if it falls in a river or bounces off rocks.
And he chose the .40 because it's big and fast enough for practically any animal he'd want to run from.

Oh yeah, and I have some spare .45 ammo I'll throw to anyone who brings one.

Do you have that article?

Tha's exactly why I want a .40...

I have always brought my glock 30 into the wilderness with me. I'd like to start bringing a .40. I thinkI will go with the glock- seriously, those fukrs take whatever you can dish out and keep going.

So what is everyone's opinion on being in the wilderness.

Would you rather have a.45 cal or a .40 cal weapon for defense?

And thanks

Posted 11-21-2005 03:35 PM, and that shoot was a few days later.

No, I don't have the article anymore. The dude liked the .40 because it was higher capacity than .45, with better penetration. Animals have pretty thick skin, and the .40 could get all the way in.

Due to higher velocity?
