BARF Militia

While most non-stock uppers will be flat tops, you could either build your own, or buy one from a place that allows customizing. del-ton is great, I bought mine from there and was extremely satisfied. You could also get a flat top with removeable carry handle- this is about $75 more but allows you to run optics if you ever want to. Thats what I did.

OK, I ordered a 16" with an A2 receiver, M4 stock, etc etc. Didn't want to fuck with flat-tops and paying $75 extra for a detachable carry handle :laughing :cool Can't wait!

Who'd you order from? And so you aren't going to go with optics?

My next project is going is going to be a standard 20" A2 upper.

I called Alexander Arms.

Told her there was a Que-N'-Shoot on the third.

Chick said she was putting me at the front of the list for shipping to try to make it in time.

:cool

You know, I never wanted an AR-type rifle, until I found out about the .458 Socom. I wonder if I could get 10-round magazines for it?

Ordered from del-ton.com
Called and made sure they had everything in stock, then put in the order. Just a normal A2 with fixed sights. No optics for me, I'm not an optics kind of guy. I think I'll add a stag-15 to my collection, then run that as my flat-top tacticool rifle :p

IIRC, the 30-rd .223 magazine holds 10 .458 rounds. If they have one with a .458 SOCOM bottom plate, it is completely legal to ship here. If they don't, there are other options to use. ;)

Attn mak90 owners:

i switched my mak90 stock, grip and hand guards. cause of this, i had to pick up a new trigger group from redstar arms to keep it legal. the guy that does the wood work, does it custom, has a huge array of wood options and does excellent work. cause theres a million different AK designs, you have to pick the right type of stock design and theres a little wood shaving and sanding afterwards but no biggie cause thats the only way youll get the right fit. if you arent willing to do the fitting, he'll do it for you but nothing is free so tack on an extra $40/hour for his labor. anyways, here's the before, during and after pics. (you have to stain it yourself)

fyi:
I opted for the laminate wood and used varathane light walnut stain #236 as well as a thin layer of clear coat

Dang it, I found a gnarly 9mm Hi Power, Browning, on consignment for $680 OBO. I'm thinking about offering $600, and seeing what happens.

Man- this thread is a monster. sorry if this has been covered...

I am looking to pick up a .40 cal pistol... I am leaning towards Glock (my glock 30 sold me on glocks forever), but I thought I'd get some barf militia opinions.

I'd vote Sig 226 or 229. I just love Sigs. I'll certainly give a nod to Glock's reliabiltity and ruggedness but I think Sigs have so much more character and after thousands of rounds my 239 has never had any misfires or jams that I can remember.

Also if you're willing to spend a bit more money the H&K P2000 is really nice.

Due respect to ya Zefflyn but the S&W 4006 however I must suggest totaly against that thing. My buddy is a CHiPie and every single time we take it out to shoot it the thing either stove pipes or has a failure to feed alteast once regardless of ammo or cleaning. (His back up weapon is a Glock. The one shooting he got in his smith jammed after 3 rounds and had to take out the Glock. Scary):shocker
I'd also say stear clear of any ruger semi-auto as well. The ones I've shot all felt like shooting a tin can full of sand and rocks.:barf

Of course this just on my experience I'm sure other people have horror storries of sigs and love their smiths and rugers. :teeth

CZ75B, quite possibly the finest factory pistol I've ever shot and/or laid eyes on. Mine's 9mm, but they make 'em in .40

For a .40, I'd go with a steel frame, not a polymer gun. I had a SigPro .40, and it just felt all sorts of odd.
A CZ75 has a steel frame, so does a SIG-Sauer P226. A Beretta 96 would also be a good choice. They're pretty awesome.

Zefflyn suggested that archaic S&W 4006, which also has a steel frame but is generally like the Katana 600 of guns.

If you really want a polymer .40, then you have tons of choices. Walther makes the P99 in .40S&W (S&W makes the slide, I believe, so it's not 100% german), there's the SigPro SP2340, Glock 22/23, HK USP .40, Beretta PX4 Storm, and S&W M&P .40

Look around locally, if you can't find what you like, maybe you can find it online and then we'll help you locate an FFL that'll transfer it for cheap. Good luck bro! :cool

<edit> Nice thing about .40S&W guns like the GLOCK 22 or SigPro is that you can usually get a .357SIG barrel and use the same mags. Also, I'm pretty sure that the GLOCK 22 can be converted to 10mm, .357SIG, and even .45ACP with at least a barrel, and I think barrel+slide in the .45 case

Yep, it's a joke based on that funny CHP Gun Purchase thread.

Slickr6 - you'll have to go to a gun store and handle a bunch of different guns. The grips are all shaped different, and different models work better/worse for different people, depending on the fit.

With the drop-test requirements in CA, mfg's only submit guns they are certain to sell a lot of, so you almost can't buy a bad gun in CA these days. (Police are exempt from the "safety" test, so can buy whatever crap they want.)

Also private party purchases are exempt from the drop tests so if you buy something off of gunbroker it is also exempt from the drop test, a little something most people are unaware of. =)
