BARF Militia

Hey folks, I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I thought I'd ask you guys. I'm planning on finally getting my CCW in the next month and doing a bunch of fire-road exploring on my new dual-sport. Any thoughts on where/how to carry while on the bike?

First off, what type size pistol?

I would suggest a shoulder or chest holster. A hip or behind the back holster would place the pistol in an unfortunate spot in the event of a get off. some shoulder holsters also have flaps to help protect the pistol.

Whoops, forgot to mention that. It'll be my Glock 19.

And tangential to this topic... What condition would you guys carry? Two? One?

This seems to generally open up a can of worms with the CCW folks, but I'm asking anyway.

What are you carrying for? If it's people just carry one. You can hold 15 rounds in the thing for cripes sake. If for bears, carry a bigger gun. ;) Just carry a couple back up magazines. And since it's 9mm don't skimp on the ammo, get something decent like Corbons or Black Talons. Yeah, and a shoulder holster sounds like the ticket.

9mm's are so girly - get a real handgun. Personally a fan of the semi-auto 357. You can actually kill something with it. I've seen a half dead whitetail deer take nearly a full 9mm clip before dieing. Humans ain't much better.

Maybe the shooter should practice his shooting :laughing 9mm hollow points are just fine for killing things

Not sure if they were allowed to carry hollowpoints - trust me, he got teased endlessly, but in all honesty it wasn't his fault....

I still prefer something with some kick.

I'm actually a pretty good shot with an M60 -

"Pinpointed" tires on a jeep - don't remember the exact yardage - you could see the tires (obviously), but it was hard to hear them blow out....so it was aways....

Yeah, I figure all the forest critters will more or less leave me alone when they hear the cacophony that is the XR650R with a Big Gun exhaust system. :teeth

I'm not too concerned with bears... but from what I gather, anything shy of a shotgun is futile. Bear spray actually seems to be the best deterrent; already have some of that.

Good call on the ammo. I figure any of those self defense rounds-- from Gold Dots to Hydrashoks and the two you mention --are all great, right?
