BARF Militia

I got this (the guys were super easy to deal with and it came quick!!!):

http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=22&t=382832

I then followed that guide at ARF.com. I completed the build in about 1 hour. Next time, I probably could do it in 15-20 minutes. It was ridiculously simple.

The hardest part is pressing the roll pins for the mag release and the trigger guard. If you can get the threaded roll pins Enchanter sells that screw in, you'd save a lot of headache! I also scratched mine up a little, but who gives a fuck, it's a battle rifle.

Oh yeah, I got the Lauer lower, which is actually made by LMT, which Ben told me supplies the military. They also just had their sale for $85.00 per lower! Goddamn that's a good deal. I paid nearly DOUBLE 2 years ago during the buzz..

Good luck! :D

Also, my Comp M4 should be here next week too. Cool thing is, I can leave the damn thing on with the AA battery in it. Should last 8 years.

Like Ben said, don't go cheap on optics! ;)

Yeah, that Stag deal is :thumbup

As for putting it together, some channel locks with taped up heads are your friend. Using the punch is a royal pain in the ass. And yes, you'll probably put a nick or two on there. Birchwood Casey makes a "allumablack" pen that works great for covering them up.

ok i spent the last 3 days with nothing but fulton titan floating around in my head.........

i think im gonna take the plunge..... damnnint i guess no gen 3 night vision for me

Hey, I live in Cordelia too. :thumbup

Really no great places. If you can find one online I know a guy in Martinez who does transfers. I also know a shop in Cordelia but they aren't a stocking dealer and I'm not sure how much they charge for orders, I've only done tranfers there. Guns Fishing and Other Stuff is pretty hit and miss. I know one of the counter guys there but I'm not sure how much they'll work for ya. There's Canyon Sports in Martinez. High prices but they'll deal. But I told the owner two years ago that I would never go back and I haven't.

That said, I think the best deal you'll find on that particular gun is at Big 5 if I'm not mistaken. The one in Fairfield actually has a pretty good gun department. Personally I'd spend another coupola few hundred and get a CZ/Huglu for around $800 or so.

Thanks Ratz. This will be my first shotgun, and the wifey gave me a budget, that I'm already going over, so can't really step it up any further. Maybe in a few years. It is a birthday gift for me :wow So I'll have her get it at Big 5 probably. Thanks.:party

No worries, I remember being married. Wait for a Big 5 sale, they have them for under $500 pretty routinely. Happy birthday. :bday

I'll be making some jigs and simple tools to help in assembly. I know of some of the "gotchas" - if I come up with anything that would replace channel locks etc. I'll let you know. If anyone's had any simple ideas floating around let me know and I can whip 'em up. Ducky, you know what I have at my disposal :cool

Okay, with all the deals going on, what to buy, what to buy.... I'm after a 20" minimum barrel, will be using open sites, flat top with removable handle, nothing too spacy looking. Fixed stock. Chrome barrel would be nice. I'm thinking of dropping the $ at Fulton but they don't quite have what I want. So, Rock River? Armalite? Stag? Help!

Ducky, where did you have the Lauer shipped to and if you don't mind me asking, what was your out-the-door cost?

I forget the guys name, but he has an FLL and is out of Fremont. He is a Realtor by trade but has the proper license to do the trade for you. I'm sure someone here knows him and can put you in contact.

I'm pretty sure if you go to that link for the Stag "kit" that is $633, you can request a 20" chrome lined barrel for an additional cost. The guys there were super cool and get excellent feedback from everyone at ARf.com.

Otherwise, Ratters or Sohjiro might have a good FFL to use.

But that LCW lower is GOOD for the price!!! I have the same thing, plus that stag kit for $633. It's a solid rifle. My Aimpoint Comp m4 is on it's way as of today too. Range time again soon. :D

I paid about $175 for my LCW (Lauer) lower about 2 years ago. That was before all the OLL boutiques started popping up and everyone was real "scared" about buying them. So there were no FFL's selling them, while everyone was trying to snatch them up. The thought was that the DOJ was going to "renew" the off-list-lowers list thus grandfathering in a bunch of rifles AND letting them be "evil". Turns out, the DOJ just left things the way they are, which is fine by me!

If you do this right, you'll pay the following:
LCW Lower = $95 (shipped)
Stag Kit = $633 (shipped) - Est. Upgrade to 20" barrel + Chrome = $150ish = $800 total
Price 50 = $25 (shipped)
FFL = $25

Total: $945

Seems good to me!!! One thing I do wish I had gotten instead, was the VLTOR buttstock. Works better with proper hearing protection at the range.. About another $80 to upgrade to it. Not really necessary though, the 6 point adjustable one that comes in the kit is pretty good really.

I think the guy is in Milpitas. He was one of the first to transfer OLL's into CA. I don't know if he's still in the FFL biz. I'd have to check to find his name and number. He was the unfortunate FFL who was involved in the infamous "Milpitas Lowers Incident". :laughing

Pretty sure his name is Rob Blank, fyi :cool

can anyone give me a heads up on the ban on M1As?

:(

Roger's Relics in Santa Clara will do OLL transfers. Nice people.

Weather permitting i'm heading down there today to start the paperwork on a Stag. Heard nothing but good stuff about them.

Fyi..Rogers Relics will be out of town starting this sat till Jan 2nd. They will still be accepting packages though.

Al

wyho cares when they are gonna ban m1a's what are you gonna do about it.

if i were in your situation, i would go and buy the best m1a receivers out there EG: LRB arms or a fulton receiver. so at least you have it, and you can built it up later

dont get a springfield, you dont want that cast receiver peice of crap
