The DOJ came in and said the ffl did not have enough safe space for the lowers (he didn't) so the confiscated them. FFL bought larger safe but DOJ refused to return them. Went on a couple years. Finally got settled. Supposedly.

On one of the later pages of the thread I posted, Gene posted up the correspondence letters between him and AM. Pretty interesting read. :thumbup Nice to know we got people like Gene and Bill on our side.

Yeah, you can buy as many long guns as you like. You can even buy more than one *used* handgun at a time. The 1 per 30 day limit only applies to new handguns.

And if you picked them up already, whatcha worried about? :confused
 
Seems like a silly topic to go to jail for, not having enough safe space then aquiring more..?

Surely there is more to it than that?

I assumed it had to do with OLL FFL's in the LA area based on people's reactions and support. Frankly, if the guy didn't have enough room in his safe that's his bad. Being stupid should be a crime.
 
Haha, I deleted my own post and the thread took me back to the very first post of the thread. Thats a long time ago.

The deal with those lowers is that the FFL was selling a whole lot of them since he was the only place in northern california. He filled up his safe and kept selling them. The DOJ inspected all the dealers selling OLLs. He screwed up, the DOJ confiscated a whole bunch of lowers that were already DROSed but still in their waiting period. He immediately bought a bigger safe, but the DOJ refused to return the lowers.

It was a huge deal not only because it was people's belongings, but because back then it was assumed that each make and model would be banned every few weeks, so these people had DROSed a gun that would soon be an AW.

By that point the DOJ had come to the conclusion that the lowers were in fact legal, and they were looking for any technicality to stop the flow of OLLs. When they took them, they had no intention of returning them. They also made some sort of threats or something to the dealer tenpercentfirearms because he immediately stopped selling them.

This is entirely different than the college kid in LA who was arrested over his 1919 on myspace.

Yes, I was. I haven't decided how I'm going to build it up yet.

Do I need to get an M1 before the end of the year, too?

I'm just saying, if I did want to buy an M1A I'm not subject to the 1 every 30 rule. Are M1As really gonna get banned? Any links to info supporting this?

In other news, my Aimpoint is in. Pretty cool. Just wish the opening was a little larger. I don't see how you're gonna use it with both eyes open!
