BARF Militia

thanks guys

But most modern rifles should be able to handle it such as the M1a and AR10s.

thats the reason I ask. I was thinking about picking up an M1a. I'd be fine running .308 through it? My Savage is chambered for .308 so naturally I'd like to keep them the same

I just got my first Airsoft toy in the mail -- a gas blowback Glock 19 by KWA or KSA, not yet familiar with the makers. Metal slide, nice heft to it. And -- OMFG -- this thing is a riot. Runs off standard propane bottles with an adapter (as someone claims to have done a spectrum analysis on the "green gas" and determined it was essentially propane.)

Dirt-cheap training of some IPSC skills, force-on-force potential.. I'm all over it. Judging by cardboard penetration and how nicely it dented plywood, this would leave a heck of a welt at close range.

I just sold my all metal Tokyo Marui Sig P226. Amazingly realistic, reasonable accuracy, and it's pretty powerful (cracked a beer bottle a couple weeks ago). For me, it didn't do much to help (or hurt) my shooting skills.

But DAMN it looks and feel real!

Anyone know if I can pick up a .22 buckmark or Mark III at the Gun Show this weekend?

Kinda - You can go pay for it if you can find a seller selling one, but it still has to go through the 10-day waiting period and all that. So make sure the seller is local, or you may have to have the seller mail it to your local dealer (or do PPT) after the show, and then start DROS and all the rigmarole at that point.

yeah, forgot to mention that part. Jackson Arms in South City may be at the show, and if they do, I know they have at least one Mark III for sale. I don't know which vendors might come up from the south bay area.

(I usually use the Cow Palace shows for ammo, and knife shopping. Oh, and other people's useless junk.)

Tharkûn~ iirc, the M1A is chambered for .308, so you'll be fine.

(then again, that Socom 16 looks so clean!

You know, that actually sounds fun. Where does one go to "play" with airsofts? The only time I've ever used one was for a self-defense training...we used the dojo's 1911 reproduction airsoft, everyone put on goggles, and we took turns holding each other up, ordering people to their knees, etc. etc., and the other person would practice disarming drills. Even the folks with considerable training (jiu-jitsu and aikido) got shot about 50% of the time when attempting a disarm:|. It was gnarly, and sobering, and yep, the little yellow pellets left some pretty good welts at close range.

Ah OK - so I won't be elligible for a pistol since I just purchased one...

Eh - not worth going then. I'd rather go ride anyway!

You're eligible if you buy used! :thumbup

Never give up! :party And you could always buy a shotgun or a rifle instead!*

*same DROS/transfer rules apply.

Buying a "used" or "Private Party Transfer" circumvents(?) the "30 day" rule. And like Zefflyn said, shotguns and rifles don't apply either. Take heart that most .22's will be used.

Besides, if you don't see what you want, you can always buy discount bulk ammo for the toys you already own, or shop for a new blade. =)

But I don't really even want a rifle because it's more trouble for me to get to a range during daylight hours. But getting to a pistol range is very convenient for me - Reeds is 2 miles away and Target Masters is 3 miles away. I can shoot at Target Masters until midnight most nights. But the closest rifle range is Los Altos Hills? Chabot? Either option is hard to get to... So, until I *really* want to shoot a rifle, it's pistols for me!

theres a outdoor shooting range around metcalf area....just down south of San Jose

you can play anywhere....theres events held in the Bay that is all war-sim....i got some airsoft guns too *Airsoft Extreme is one of my favorite shop to just look at :p*

but hms..yellow bbs? thats the lower-grade bbs (.18 i think)...just wait till you get shot with the .20 gram bbs from a "good branded" gas pistol....

I intentionally shot myself in the leg when I got my P226 airsoft gun. The welt (and pain) was impressive! .20 BB at point blank :laughing

Proof I have less common sense than brains. :p

Does that mean it doubles as a flamethrower when you run out of pellets? :cool

It'll be a flamethrower / cigar lighter and occasional pellet shooter. :nerd

As for places to play, I've no idea. What I'd like to practice initially is drawing and firing rapidly at several targets -- some variation on the Bill Drill and such. ( http://www.kuci.uci.edu/~dany/firearms/all_drills.html)

Would like to find silhouette targets light enough for Airsoft, and maybe stuff like this: http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/accessory.pl?accessory_id=1789

The hope is to develop some point shooting skills without burning through major ammo $$ -- get that hand-eye coordination down -- and then fine-tune with the real deal.

Oh, so you don't just dream about not buying real guns, you daydream about not buying fake guns too?
