BARF Militia

Cool pics.

I did the paperwork on my SKS (FINALLY!) on Saturday so I pick it up in two weeks. I'll post pics then. Final cost was $187.54 OTD. It wasn't the unissued we were supposed to get but it is "excellent". Wood was a little rough but almost no dings. Metal was black and perfect, minus all the cosmoline I gotta clean off. Mine has the sleeve over the grenade launcher. I like that look better than the muzzle brake, though it sucks it just can't be in its natural state.

BTW, Traders has them in good/vg condition for $129 right now.

I love my SKS, it is a very easy rifle to shoot. It shoots dead on when cold, but I have found that when the barrel warms up it shoots high and left. Somebody told me this is common with alot of rifles.

Opinions?

Yeah. Sell it. I got $100 right here!

:twofinger :p

I'm surprised it gets hot at all..my dad had a Yugo AK, emptied a couple 30rd mags, then grabbed it by the barrel with no problem :wow He made the mistake of doing the same thing with his friend's Romanian AK. he had a scar for a couple years :laughing

I figured the SKS would act much the same way :confused

Hmmm, my Russian one never did that. But it's hard to tell where you're hitting when you are bump firing. :D

I've had rifle's where the first couple cold shots went away from where the rest went when the barrel warmed. Adjust your sight to where you will be using them most. The ar and ak are sighted warm. The LTR I sight to it's first clean cold shot. Though that one stays pretty consistent as long as I shoot it off bags. The bipod does OK if legs are kept short, but the groups open way up if I extend the legs. Don't know why.

He must not have grabbed the Yugo by the barrel, or waited quite a while before doing so. Any barrel will burn the crap out of you after a couple 30 rd. mags.

Maybe it was just one 30rd mag? :confused People exaggerate :laughing My M44 is blazing hot after one shot :laughing :laughing

OK, I went to Trader and wasn't really impressed with the stuff they had. The SKS rifles that are on sale are the ones with the sawed off grenade launcher and recrowned barrel, not the muzzle brake ones :( I'm thinking about trading in the M44 to help pay for the SKS, just because I want one so bad :| I saw that they had an M44 for $139, so if they can give me close to $100 for mine, that would rock :) Thoughts? Alternatives?

It only takes one :)

:laughing

Yeah, I'm being realistic about it, I probably won't get shit for it, but hell, if they had an M38 for 140...

Maybe you can sell pictures of your purple blanket to a museum for $3000. :laughing

How come I'm not surprised there's a gun thread on a motorcycle forum? :laughing You guys are great!

I'll try to contribute something, so I'll start with some brief reviews of guns I currently own or have owned in the past:

S&W 629 .44mag Powerport - most accurate handgun I've ever shot, took a running wild boar at 74 yards with one shot... nuff said

Kimber .45 - renewed my belief in semi-auto handguns, it's a joy to shoot and it's relatively inexpensive

S&W 22a .22 caliber - great plinker, never jammed, cheap, feels like a toy, my next 22 will be a higher end target model

IMI Jericho 9mm + .40 (also known as Baby Eagle) - don't like shooting 9mm, the other caliber was outrageously expensive and hard to find, wouldn't buy it again, made me lose faith in semi-autos

IMI Desert Eagle .357 mag and .44mag - almost as awesome as the 629 Powerport .44mag, these are very heavy, very accurate and just a joy to shoot. surprisingly, I like the .44 mag better than the .357 mag

Calico M100 .22 - mini assault weapon with a 100 round rotary magazine, feels like plastic toy, not accurate, crap quality, jammed a lot, good thing they're banned

Remington 870 12 gauge - workhorse, can't go wrong with it, inexpensive

Churchill Monarch o/u 12 gauge - nice wood, nice gun, kicks like a mule, good buy if you find a nice used one

Browning Stalker w/ boss .270 and Leupold VariX2 - favorite hunting rifle, super accurate, not one complaint

Volquartzen 10/22 .22 - take a Ruger 10/22 and throw away almost the whole thing, then send it to Volquartzen and get back a tack driving machine with a 8x32 Redfield scope. it's ridiculously heavy and incredibly accurate and I'm still not sure why I own it, other than I had a huge bonus check at the time I had it done.

Beretta semiauto trap gun 12 gauge, 30" barrel - this is by far the best shotgun I've shot, very little kick, nice stock, just love it

Benelli Nova 12 gauge, synthetic stock - duck hunting workhorse, shoots any round, inexpensive, just a tool you don't mind leaning in the mud in the blind

S&W 340PD .357mag - well, I pick this one up next Sunday (10 days for me to cool off before I blow somebody away... :rolleyes ) but if you think a 12 oz. scandium/titanium .357mag will be "fun" to shoot, you're on crack! the guy that sold it to me included a leather glove with the index finger cut out so I don't destroy my hand when I shoot the first (and hopefully last) box of ammo through it... the purpose of such small handguns is not regular range duty... ;)

In conclusion, I like most revolvers much better than the average semi-auto handgun. I like good quality pump shotguns or high end semi-autos - the over/under is just a "classic" but not as fun to shoot. A .270 caliber rifle is good enough for anything in California, but I'd be willing to go up to a 30/06 but NOTHING bigger - I don't like to kill my shoulder. I've learned my lessons and just don't buy cheap guns anymore - you eventually want to unload them anyway.

Happy shooting! ;)

An SKS Gattling Gun :wtf:wtf

Get 4 friends and your own little army shipped to your door for $300.00 :p

Fuck that Romanian shit, mine's Russian! The original!

You can get like the Eastern Bloc 3-pack on Gunbroker.com..it's like $59 total for 3 M44s, Romanian, Hungarian, and Bulgarian, I believe... :laughing If I can get $60 for it, I'd be a very happy man, but I'm not holding my breath.

Much like your 9MM it's cheaper to shoot, good quality and very accurate. It'll be good for the kids to. I had to switch shooting .357 Sig (my favorite) in favor of 9MM because of the cost of ammo.

I'm laughing at the .50 BMG ban, I was thinking of getting one but now it's .338 Lapua all the way. Shoots flatter anyway.

No, dude, I can't..I'm a poor college student and I want an SKS. :teeth

Who wants 8 boxes (of 15rds each, 120rds total) of Yugoslavian 7.62x54R brass-case milsurp corr. ammo? $30?

OK this is my 3000th post, so I figured I'd put it in my favorite thread :)

<edit>

Just got back from Trader Sports...the SKS rifles they have on sale this week are M59s, not M59/66...so no flip-up nightsights, no muzzle brake, shorter stock (due to lack of rubber pad)...it was gonna come out to $170 anyway, so I decided it wasn't such a good deal, I'd rather save up a bit more and get the /66 model. Oh well :(

Man, I want an M59. How did they look? There isn't really much to the /66 model and most of the good ones are gone anyhow. And 170 OTD is pretty sweet. Hmmm, do I really need 3 SKSs?
