BARF Militia

You can buy them built from private persons for anywhere from $500 to $2000 :laughing

The off-list receiver will run you around $100
You can get a complete rifle kit from Del-ton.com for about $460 for the bare bones, or you can customize it with some cool stuff (flat-top upper, chrome-lined barrel, some bling handguards, etc)
www.del-ton.com

Keep checking calguns.net for sale forums, and the same at ar15.com. Sometimes there's really awesome deals.

I have a couple delton kits and have been very happy with them.

and thats shooting a .22 too....:p

I thought I would post my set up. These two pistols are my pride and joy. These pics don't show my derringer collection or my other two shotguns. But these are my babies:

Nice collection! I should post a photo of my commemorative Winchester 94 30-30 lever action. Ever done cowboy action shooting?

Yowza!

Uh, can I come down and play with your, uh, guns? :teeth

You can come play with my uhmmm guns (or anything else you would like to get your hands on ;) :laughing) anytime you want to! :teeth

That is a nice gun^. What do you mean cowboy action? If you mean shooting competitions, yes but not in any major competitions. More or less little fair like things.
I prefer lever actions. One gun I really want is the Pearl handled double barrel derringer (snub nosed). I really want it!!! So if you ever see one at any shows, please holler at me!!!

Cowboy Action is single action shooting, and it looks like, and is reported to be, much fun! (I was introduced to it by a woman I met at a chuckar + pheasant hunt in Nebraska several years back. At this point, I've only watched it and haven't competed myself.) Http://www.curtrich.com/gettingstarted.html gives a lot of info on it-- [though I do disagree with the assertion that CAS is the only shooting sport with a dress code-- if they'd ever been to a meet of the Vintagers Order of Edwardian Gunners, they'd know that!]

Nemo and I will keep our eyes open for your derringer, though we are a ways away from you... ;-)

Dude if you find my derringer I will make the trip! Trust me, I've been looking for it for a long while.

I grew up in Arizona until I turned 13 then we moved to the desert in Imperial Valley, I am not familiar with the Cowboy competitions that you guys are talking about. It sounds interesting though thank you for the link. I'll check into it. I mostly hunt dove, quail and some pheasant. I try to go elk and deer hunting every year. Elk IMO is the best meat ever. My uncles go bear hunting but I am not allowed to go. They don't trust me not to try to pet them I guess *shrug* :laughing

What, they think you can get speared by an elk, but are too delicate for a bear? Silliness on their part. What's your elk rifle? I love me some elk meat, but having been given some caribou meat years ago, I think that may be my eternal favorite.

Sheesh, I haven't been hunting in years. Perhaps I need to get my license again and try a turkey hunt here up north sometime--the bastards seem to be everywhere, and they look tasty.

I'll keep a lookout on Calguns for a derringer. Here's my version:

although I think that you had something more like this in mind:

I started turkey hunting with a bow, I haven't gotten one yet! But it is still fun to try. My brother has been out practicing to hunt deer with his bow. Which is insane to me but he said I would love it. So I may try that next. I have never had caribou but sounds yummy. Bear is stringy and tough, I don't like it. :(

Do you have a problem with jamming on that gun of yours? My bro has one like that and his jams after about 4 shots.

Thanks for keeping a look out. Here is what I am looking for but I want a side by side barrel not over and under. This is a 1866 double barrel pearl handle, I would prefer nickle plated to gold though. It doesn't matter at this point though.

Rossi made the side by side Mike

^didnt know they made a side by side derringer...?

It's a PM9, in 9mm. The recoil is much, MUCH more pronounced than the Sig (it leaves grip-prints on the palm of your hand), but it's actually kind of fun. It's so teeny that it's not very accurate after 10 yards, but that seems to be a good self-defense distance to me. Got it after I applied for my Utah CCW permit--next time I take a long solo bike trip, I'll be packin' once I cross the state line.

I haven't had any jam problems yet, although I know that there was a recall on the PM9 barrels that covers mine. Apparently the feed ramp was at a bad angle, making shots jam. Either way, I have a little Don Hume belt holster and a DeSantis pocket holster for the bike jacket; the PM9 is really easy to conceal.

Nice on the bowhunting, Darlene...that's badass.
