First-person (and one third-person) video highlights of yesterday's Western Nevada Pistol League USPSA match...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAzqToV_Frs

The third person video (GM class, Open division) is followed by first person (GM class, Limited division) of the same stage.

The "nice timing" comment is six shots on one target at 50 yards, fixed time of six seconds. The target is barely visible in the video.

sweet shooting....and the "nice timing" comment was said around 1:15 i think

:thumbup

It was a fixed time stage. React to the first beep, draw and fire six shots on a single target at fifty yards before the second beep six seconds later. If you shoot late, you are penalized. If you finish early, you penalize yourself by not using all the sight picture and trigger control you could have used. Anyway, I was proud to touch off the final shot in concert with the buzzer, hence the comment.

Not shown are the strong hand and weak hand strings wherein I finished with extra time. :(

Anybody going to Chabot tomorrow?

EDIT: Oopsie. I mean .. today?

I'm thinking of using one of my "get-in free" cards there and shooting until I run out of ammo. I'm thinking maybe getting there by noonish. I'll probably be on my DRZ. My sport yellow Arai helmet will either be on a bench or below it. Git your target and look for me. I'm the one who'll be taking about 20 seconds to sight her target. :toothless

Just shoot what ya brung. I think at Chabot, like other ranges, pistols and rifles shoot together.

I'm running late. Most likely won't be there until 12:30. Or even later.

Can anyone here get me a good deal on a safariland IIIA vest?

Or rather, is anyone LEO or military that gets a discount on vests somewhere locally? :)

If you want a real value in a .45, Taurus sells a couple 1911 models LOADED with custom features, that costs maybe $550...
Shot a friends (T)aurus 1911, if I didnt have a 1911 already, I would have bought a (T)aurus. In fact I might still come income tax time.
Anyone have a first person review of those Taurus 1911's?...

Let's not forget most of us, here on BARF, live in California where just ordering any handgun isn't so easy or even possible, unless it's on "the list". Ref. http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

To answer one of the questions, the Taurus 1911 is a bargain with few complaints. Like many 1911 handguns, there may be new-out-of-the-box problems. But generally nothing which can't be fixed, once diagnosed. Just don't expect 100% function with a or any 1911 when bought new and you won't be disappointed. But that's where warranties and after-market customer service come into play.

This is not a "first person review", only what I've read, mainly on:
http://forum.m1911.org
http://forums.1911forum.com
among others.

Also check out Rock Island Armory (RIA), but again, check "the list": http://www.armscor.net/Pistols.htm

I've blown a lot of $ on 1911 pistols this year. IMHO, if you've got more money than time, consider something like a Wilson http://www.wilsoncombat.com/
if not, RIA, or if you've got some money and some time, the Kimber, Springfield-Armory, Colt, etc. 1911 pistols. Add to the cost, many brands suggest a 500 round break-in (~$200) and the pistols may only come with one magazine. Good magazines are ~$30+/magazine. If the gun doesn't work right, plan on ~month back to the factory for warranty repairs.

The 1911 is now an enthusiast's gun and may not be right for everybody. It's an old design, yet good enough where it's still popular. It's complicated enough where it won't always work with different accessories from a myriad of manufacturers. Yet, it has a feel which is unique and many people initially shoot it better vs. other makes & models.

Anyone have any suggestions on pistol & mag holsters for IPSC? I thinking of giving it a try.

Oh, anyone going to the Police pistol combat event at chabot tomorrow, I think I'm going to check it out. Aug 10th is the 2nd sunday of this month, right? :nerd

I'm late answering, so hopefully you've already found out, you can bring and shoot any number of guns for free with a receipt. You don't even have to bring your new gun.

I received this really funny e-mail from the VPC the other day:

Dear Violence Policy Center Action Network Member:

As you may have already seen or read, last week Mother Jones revealed in an in-depth investigative piece that long-time gun control activist Mary McFate was in fact, Mary Lou Sapone, a long-time undercover operative--apparently aided by her daughter-in-law Mongtomery McFate and son Sean McFate--who was working as a spy on behalf of the National Rifle Association.

You can read the Mother Jones article here: http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2008/07/mary-mcfate-sapone-gun-lobby-nra-spy.html.

You can also read a blog I wrote for The Huffington Post on this issue here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/josh-sugarmann/mary-mcfate--shes-the-nra_b_116826.html.

Not surprisingly, the NRA--using a practice that's been well-honed in the wake of mass shootings--is refusing to answer press inquiries regarding their involvement with Ms. McFate. In a brief follow-up article, Mother Jones offers new information on Sean McFate in the wake of what the publication has dubbed "Gun-gate."

You can read the Mother Jones update here: http://www.motherjones.com/mojoblog/archives/2008/08/9218_did_the_son_of.html.

Right now, gun violence prevention organizations are reviewing their legal options while Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey has sent the NRA a letter demanding answers.

You can read about Senator Lautenberg's letter to the NRA here: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jfwqzUxO02w4IkfmdtDZeSMDdxRwD92DQQ4O1.

For those of us who have dedicated our lives to ending gun violence, the most disturbing aspect of this revelation is the image of Ms. McFate listening to the many raw, emotional stories that are all too common in our movement, while at the same time deciding in the back of her mind how to use her latest acquaintance to the advantage of her gun lobby employers*. This image is a stark reminder of what the NRA under its current leadership has become and what today's gun lobby is capable of.

While no one has ever doubted the extremes to which the NRA's leadership will go in their efforts to stop even the most limited gun controls, this latest revelation should be a shocking wake-up call to all Americans.

We will be certain to keep you updated as this story continues to unfold.

And thank you, as always, for your efforts to stop gun death and injury.

Sincerely,

Josh Sugarmann
Executive Director

* emphasis mine. Sounds like he's mad, because he wanted to be the only one listening to the many raw, emotional stories that are all too common in our movement, while at the same time deciding in the back of his own mind how to use his latest acquaintance to the advantage of his anti-gun lobby employers. :laughing :|

I think it's funny that they are so shocked and offended at being infiltrated, and having a pro-gunner listening in on all their secrets. What have they got to hide? Are they worried we'll find out they really are pushing for total gun bans, not just sensible gun controls? :shocker

big 5 has Yugo SKS's on sale for $350 right now. I know they don't have the chrome lined barrels but this seems like a good deal for an SKS these days.

The ones that I saw had an OK metal. But stock...OMG!:wow Looked like somebody started making it and than was like "Fuck it, if they want it nice, they can buy it and finish it."

Picked up my GP100 (161) yesterday. Man, it is AWESOME! My dad says he still likes his S&W 686-3 better, but whatever, I think a 6" barrel is > 4" barrel. Pics to follow when I get home later today :)

Does anyone have a Ruger 10/22 they want to sell before I go buy a new one?

Also, does anyone know of a place who can beat the Big5 sale price of $219? Yeah I know 20 years ago they were cheap but this is now so who's got the deals?
