BARF Militia

Have you looked at Reed's? They have a fairly decent (although small) selection. I don't think they carry Caesar Guerini or Perazzi shotguns, but a phone call is free.

Thanks for the feedback. I was at Kerley's yesterday and I really didn't look at C.G. before, but always wanted a Perazzi (someday). The guys at Kerley's were definitely pushing C.G. and it's definitely a nice shotgun. I have no interest in pure trap guns, just want a nice field O/U that I can shoot trap, skeet and sporting clays, then take it out for upland birds. I still want a Perazzi someday, but I can probably save up for a GC a lot quicker - they're less than half the price of a Perazzi. And I'm actually considering a 20 gauge since I already have a nice Churchill 12 gauge O/U.

I don't have a lot of guns in my safe, but the stuff I have is pretty nice. I don't like to own junk. I would rather have one nice piece than 5 junky ones.

check out cddn?

Most of those guns u r mentioning are great....IDEALLY....if I was to pick one specific shotgun to do all...I will always lean towards a shotgun that does sporting clays..so Go to Coyote and find out what those guys are shooting.

Wow, the CG and Perazzi are kind of overkill if you're not doing competition shooting. Beretta makes some damn nice O/Us for half the cost of the CG. Just get the stock fitted. But if you have the dough for the Perazzi, go for it. :thumbup

I probably will join a trap league, but I said I don't want a pure competition trap gun because it's hard to go back and forth from a field gun barrel to a trap gun barrel. I'm selling my racebike at the end of the season so I'll have some "toy money" that I can spend - I won't get Perazzi money for it but I should have enough for a Caesar Guerini or something else in the $3-4k range. It all depends on my 2010 racing plans... there's a good chunk of play money available if you're not racing bikes. :teeth

You shoulda said they have a guy giving tattoos of sks's and he might have bit. :p

is upland game hunting still done with lead or do you have to use steel?

because if you need to use steel, shooting steel through a shotgun you use lead out of will wear down the barrel quicker, and make it shoot a little less consistent, and ino trap, skeet ect is all about consistency. i use remington 870 for duck, and than i have a browning twelvette that i only shoot lead outa, ie dove and trap.

Some of the preserves are going to non-toxic but not all of them. Private property is still ok with lead, nothing in the regs says you can't use it. I think the nutjobs are trying to pull that "condor corridor" bs on shotgun shells too, so it may just be a matter of time before you can't use lead shot at all. :rolleyes

Steel tears up the older guns, but a lot of the new ones are ok with steel. You definitely want to follow the manufacturer's recommendations and if they say "no steel" you do NOT put steel through the barrell. You also have the option of using a lot of different non-toxic shells that really aren't any tougher on the guns than lead. Of course those loads are very expensive, but you also don't put a lot of shots through the barrell for upland bird hunting.

I'm only using a over/under for upland birds because you can still take good care of them in the field (no muck, no blinds, no real abuse of the shotgun). Needless to say, duck hunting is the complete opposite and beats the living $hit out of a shotgun, so that's why I have a couple of 870s and my current favorite, a Benelli Nova that I affectionately refer to as a "shovel" since it gets treated with the same loving care as a shovel... :teeth

ahw, thanks for the info, well my browning is not in the best shape but cosmetically but the barrel has only ever used lead so i keep it that way. i guess a 30 year old gun counts as old.

Dove opener..............

Right, that's what I meant, dove season opener. If you don't mind, what are some often-overlooked must-haves for the dove hunter? I have a little section in my store where I set up the realtree folding stools/chairs, aluminum table, lunchboxes, insect repellant, emergency blanket, hunting boot, and dove bag. Anything else you think I should add that would help people get ready? :teeth
