Marine sniper credited with longest confirmed kill in Iraq

AR RAMADI, Iraq (Jan. 02, 2005) -- Seen through a twenty-power spot scope, terrorists scrambled to deliver another mortar round into the tube. Across the Euphrates River from a concealed rooftop, the Marine sniper breathed gently and then squeezed a few pounds of pressure to the delicate trigger of the M40A3 sniper rifle in his grasp.

The rifle's crack froze the booming Fallujah battle like a photograph. As he moved the bolt back to load another round of 7.62mm ammunition, the sniper's spotter confirmed the terrorist went down from the shot mere seconds before the next crack of the rifle dropped another.

And an update on my .22LR autoloader purchase:

I've decided to wait until spring.. and then I'll probably go with the Remington 597 or Ruger 10/22. For now, I'm gonna spend the money I saved up on 7.62mm ammo, and start a fresh savings for the .22 :laughing :laughing

Sucks that you guys work tomorrow, I'll be hitting the range. Thank you Martin Luther King Jr. for giving me the day off school :p

Hope you'll be 21 at the time or your not allowed to buy .22LR ammo because it can be used in a handgun.

Oh and I was at the range today :twofinger

OK, I pick up the Remington tomorrow, so I was hoping for some pointers on initial and regular cleaning of a shotgun.

I've read the owner's manual and it's pretty straightforward. I'm hoping to shoot approximately 2-3 times a month. Is there anything more I should know?

I won't be using lead and slugs will come when I purchase a different choke.

Your talking about the 870 right?
They really don't need any special matainance just the basics. Remove the choke to clean it. It's easier to get the pastic off when it's out of the gun.
Also there is no problem with using lead shot.

Shotgun party?

I'm going to be at the 10th St. range this Friday, probably around 7:00, to do some pistol/shotgun work. You should stop by.

Md. police: Repeal gun ID system

BALTIMORE -- A law requiring Maryland State Police to collect ballistics information from each handgun sold in the state has not aided a single criminal investigation and should be repealed, a state police report has concluded.

Think the idiot CA lawmakers will learn from MA experience?

I took some photos yesterday..they look much cooler in full res, but hey, here's some abridged versions:

some of these came out kinda grainy :( I had more but it's pretty much more of the same thing. I've decided that my 7.62x54R ammo looks cooler than the 7.62x39.

Thank you for the invite, I'm not sure if I'll get off of work in time, probably closer to 8PM. I'll PM you later.

Yep - but I think it's because your 54R ammo is real brass and copper, rather than painted steel.

Cool pics :thumbup

So, when we were at the range last Sunday, the guy on the lane to my left was shooting off his Robar .50. He was cool enough to let me pop a round from it. But after he left I was cleaning under my bench and found that he had left a single .50 brass underneath. I held it up, and Dreadjay (who had just bought his own .50 sniper rifle) snatches it from my hand like the brass-whore from hell.

Anyways, this picture is for him (I actually have pictures from later in the night when the .50 cal brass was about a foot high, but I can't find them):

I recently turned 18, and am interested in buying a gun, to shoot at ranges and home defense too i guess. My question is what kind? I want a pistol, but I know they are off limits til I'm 21, so that leaves rifles and shotguns. I'm leaning towards the rifles, so if I want, I can go hunting with it.

I've never shot a gun before, as I didnt have a father around, and my mom (who is ok with the idea of a gun) wouldnt buy one, mainly becase she doesn't know how to shoot, and it would be useless to her.

So, information would be helpful. :)
