"Better than most other moto forums" for female riders doesn't mean it's good. The bar isn't exactly set high here.

Bud's trying to make it more female friendly, right? I can't say my perspective us particularly relevant but but assuming the respondents don't know the OP some of the replies have been out-of-line IMO (i.e. trying to be funny but failed).

Good luck
:ride

Lucy, welcome to barf.

We resemble that remark.:x

So, thanks, most of you! I dunno if I have a 'bad attitude'. Guess I thought I was asking a straight question that wasn't gender-related. Thin skin? Maybe. I used to do OK in mostly male cockpits in the airlines...thrived on lowbrow humor.

Newbie? Not exactly, with over 20 years of riding, interesting leap some of you made. And group rides, all the time. And I'm highly social, thanks.

I'd love to ride Skaggs, will check out Dames Don't Care...

One of the dames founders is from Santa Rosa. I'll tell em she should check out this thread.

Happy riding. :ride

:laughing

Banjoboy is actually a total gentleman with a warped sense of humor. He's done a lot for my riding in the almost two years I've been his disciple. :dunno

You can storm off with your knickers in a twist or you can grow a thicker skin and enjoy some of the great people on BARF.

signed,

Your fellow female rider
Piss off! Now go make me a samich beeeooootch! :twofinger :chuci

Lucy, it takes a tough skin to be on BARF. Guys don't tend to be as abrasive to women in person as to other men, but on the internet it may be different.

The "purty mouth" comment wouldn't have been a surprise to see directed at a guy, either.
Or sheepz? :toothless

...People who show their faces are -edit- almost always worth knowing...

this...
and yes, we try to keep it civil here, but it's like herding cats...

and do go on a ride with canyonrat.

Hi Lucy :wave
I'm a weekday rider as well.

I might ride with ya; if'n you gotta purdie mouf? :toothless

Completely inappropriate and out of context in this thread. I get it. I know it was meant in humor, but not cool. You told an inside joke in the presence of essentially, an outsider, a newb. This doesn't help us, it doesn't help BARF. Please reconsider the entire audience before posting these type of comments.

The rest of you that piled on...knock it off. This isn't the 'Sink. Let's bring it back on topic (of the original post), and end the misogynistic comments (even the 'little' ones).

I've been a little haunted by this thread. First I want to say, thanks Lucy for coming back, this is an AMAZING community and very much worth wading through some muck.

At times some of the membership can be a little juvenile with respect to their treatment of female members or with each other for that matter. I often have to sit back and say to myself "oh hell no, he did not say that." The fact is he did, or they did but I don't think it's blanket misogyny. More likely ignorance, lack of understanding, and as such a little gentle education goes a long way.

The difference between BARF now and BARF 2007 when I began actively posting is pretty impressive. I don't believe it is because of more rules or more moderation but because of more membership awareness.

If people (women especially) throw their hands up and walk out it gets us nowhere, but by coming in, being active and letting folks know that their behavior is unacceptable you can evoke changes that make this a really cool place to hang out.

Glad you're here and I would advise a rally immediately!

Good. Next time I get Lucy, my beemer, up for a north ride, no turn signals or brake light at the moment, see, I'm safety conscious! I'll give a holler.
I myself am as social as rabid cactus..

Haunted is right. But all will turn out well! Butch, ThumperX, Enchanter, Channelcat, Dravnx, Daks and more - you're all cool, thanks! And good riding to all (she said equanimously...)!

You completely missed the point and then decide to go with an ad hominem attack. That is an interesting tactic.

Your BARF personna is an inside joke. I don't think that it's reasonable to expect a new member to 'get it'. I also think that it's reasonable to assume that a 'purdy mouth' comment would be taken poorly.

And rather than deflect responsibility, take the time to read the responses of the OP. You could also wander over the the Post Whore thread to read the discussion over there. That's how I found this thread.

It's been a while now that Bud has asked that we make BARF more inclusive, especially to women riders. I'm asking you, we're asking you, to help in that regard.

Like I said in the first post, I understand that humor was your intent, but it clearly wasn't recevied that way. On the other hand, the intent of your reply to me was clear.

Banjoboy and his fake persona are nothing more than a bad rip off of our dearly departed Silly Sod. Never been fun nor funny.

You're not wrong about this, though with Lucy having been a member since 2012, it's not immediately evident that she's a new user. When one opens her profile one sees she has a low post count, which provides a clue, though she could have been lurking for some time.

No question that the safe bet is to avoid off color humor, though I think that starts to throw the baby out with the bath water. As I said in the PW thread, until BARF decides to change the site name to a word that isn't a synonym for vomit, there may be limits to the maturity level we can expect.
