California Assault Weapon Registration

Is it possible to register now?

Is it true that you have to upload a bunch of pictures of the gun as well?

If I have a few AR lowers, can I take pictures with the same 22LR upper for all of the registrations?

I gotta get on Calguns and read about the reg. Honestly, it's all pretty confusing if you're not constantly in the loop. I'm sure plenty of people who have guns tucked away in their safes aren't aware of the legislation.
Yes, you can register now.

Yes, you need to upload pictures.

A 22LR rifle can't be an AW. I suspect you could get away with it, but who knows.
I believe it must be centerfire to meet the standards of a AW.
rimfire pistols can be AWs

How long before they come after our semi-auto pistols with removable magazines next?

I wonder how secure their database is for this registry, it could serve as a shopping list for potential thieves.

There was a bill in works that potentially would ban all semiauto firearms in the state, but the idea was abandoned. For now. I don’t know about security level of DOJ servers, but their database is so screwed up that no judge will issue warrant.

The direction they're heading, I'm not surprised that they would have tried and I would expect them to keep trying.

Each state has it's collections of kook politicians who for some unexplained reason seem to get elected and get inflicted onto the rest of the citizens under their influence.

"...if your rifle does not have a non-detachable magazine..." How is that confusing? LOL. Hey they are lawyers not English majors, what do you expect?

As indicated in the initial post, the language regarding applicability is severely wanting.

their database is certainly screwed up

the FFL I go to most registered something with a serial that started with 0. The system wouldn't allow that.

He almost got arrested over it :rolleyes

He was out shooting it, a cop noticed

he had his paperwork, but his paperwork didn't have a 0 at the beginning of the serial number (meaning paperwork said 12345, gun said 012345)

eventually convinced the cop to have his supervisor come out before arresting him, supervisor told the cop he was an idiot basically

You do not have to register 22LR rifles, nor do you have to register incomplete guns.

Some 22LR pistols are AWs. For a while there olympic competition pistols were AWs but we finally got some exemptions.

Nothing to get away with, they do not have to be registered.
You need paperwork to go shooting now?
Technically no but the cops are so confused on this issue, it's best to carry a copy of your paperwork.

Many Ruger rifles start with 0. Some go 000x-xxxxx

I've got other uppers in centerfire not just 22LR and those are the mostly used ones, just don't feel the need to share pics of my awesome builds to the government.

Let's say I register 3 ARs, this means all 3 have to be with different uppers or can I just swap one over to all 3?

"get away with" meaning manage to register it as an AW with a 22LR upperI thought the law didn't require carrying the paperwork, but it seems like a good idea

I don't think you need paperwork but I would probably carry a copy of my RAW paperwork with me when I want to shoot it. The calguns site also has a nice spreadsheet that covers what is/isn't a RAW and I believe it references the penal codes. I'd probably stash that in my range bag, too to show to an officer if he openly questions my firearm

This is ridiculous.

It was never a requirement to remember or maintain documentation of the DROS.

You're surprised? A California politician wrote this crap, you shouldn't be surprised.

Guns would have been completed per the finish date in the new law, I can't recall what that is from memory. Lowers without an upper are not AWs. So at this point you cannot buy uppers for them because you would be assembling an AW and that isn't allowed. Make sense?

So who got paperwork for their guns purchased in the 90's?

If it was an "assault weapon" registered the first time around then the state should have issued the proper paperwork to the individual registering the "assault weapon".

If your just asking tongue in cheek then that is the million dollar question with regards to individuals remembering when and where they purchased as that is required information for registration. The interesting thing will be if someone tries to register an "assault weapon" they purchased in 2009 (before long gun registration began in 2014) and the state comes back and tells them they have entered the wrong date and seller info on their registration form. The state wasn't supposed to have this type of info before 2014, and it wasn't a requirement of purchase so how the hell could they hold someone responsible/deny registration because of it.

I really hope the current lawsuit gets this shut down...but I won't hold my breath with the 2A unfriendly courts in CA. I'm just glad I don't have an "assault weapon" because I wouldn't want to deal with this cluster f$@k.
