Civil Disobediance

I was about to type a long rant/response. But figured it was a waste of time. I agree with cfive above.

On the one hand, I'm a punk and 90% of the time I think cops suck. But I also understand that human beings are too shitty to police themselves.

Even if you're not the type of person that would pass a cyclist on the right and leave them bleeding & broken in your rear view without stopping. That's what riding without a plate implies. Sure, I've ridden home on a motorcycle I just bought without gap insurance. it might not have been the most responsible thing.

But gloating about riding for years without a plate, and playing dumb to the officer that you didn't think one was necessary, all that seems a bit puerile.

I didn't play dumb with him nor was disrespectful.

The only reason a motorcycle has a plate is for automated traffic enforcement, which I find morally and ethically bankrupt, and monitoring the coming and going of the vehicle through automated plate readers.

That is basically what I told him, he told me to put my plate on or next time he would ticket me. Oddly OPD and SFPD never pulled me over even when behind me during my time in the bay, only for an expired plate on the wee ninja. One OPD cruiser did follow me about 5 blocks down Myrtle.

Despite his instructions, I won't affix the plate unless I am crossing a border. I will accept any ticket I receive. It is a akin, in my mind, to speed limits. I ride/drive at the speed I choose. I don't pay attention to speed limits. I will accept any speeding ticket I receive (although I may take it to court because I believe most speed limits are arbitrary revenue creators).

Sounds like a criminal to me

Well I put plates on my bikes because they have messages on them. :x

Haha yeah can't wait for my bike vanity plate, I can get a US Navy one. I do agree most speed limits are huge revenue generators and otherwise pointless. Problem isn't speed, it's horrible drivers

I haven't had a plate since January. But that's because I lost it on a ride and haven't been able to force myself to the DMV.

My plate fell off on the way to work on Friday. In no hurry to waste my life in the DMV. I am just going to wait until I get a fix it ticket. Although, my ancestors are from Africa so I might get shot when the police notice.

You are special meter man, keep on making up your own rules, we'll fully trust your judgement.

Thanks for thinking I'm special.

Think past your condescension. Rules that serve no purpose should be ignored. If at trial, the jury should nullify the law by not convicting. Citizens who choose to ignore Laws should lobby their elected officials and be prepared to explain to rule enforcers why they do not comply.

Surely you ride at the speed you see fit. Does that make you "special"? Why does it bug you when someone doesn't conform?

What accountability is missing for a motorcycle without a plate?

Well if you committed a crime like a hit and run, a witness cannot tell anything more than a physical description.

I know your point will be that you aren't going to commit any crimes so you don't need a plate.

However, if nobody ran plates it makes this reasoning rather nonsensical.

Certainly the recent bike/moto incident made me think about hit and run more. Precious I couldn't think of any scenario wherein I could hit someone on the motorcycle and be able to flee due to injuries or damage to the bike.

I shall definitely include this in my risk tolerance considerations.

And you are correct I would not hit and run.

The only upside is for running the bridges and avoiding tolls lol

Rules are for people without ethics.

If you hit someone and took off because there is no license plate, then you are a scumbag. If you stay, you have ethics.

Or lights that won't change and have red light cameras.

Or not allowing cities like Tiburon to record entry and exit into their town. Any other town that places plate readers at entry and exit included.

Unethical speed camera vans.

Bridge tolls as a funding tool are inefficient and silly. Infrastructure should be paid by fuel taxes.

I'm still really curious why POs will pull Up behind, notice no plate and then ignore it. Can't tell I'm whitish if my skin is completely covered. Maybe they assume an AtGaTT person is likely to be insured, registered and on his own bike.
