All I am saying is that your stated motivation for counter-leaning in a U-turn is, IMHO, incorrect. The technique itself is valid and essential. Can you appreciate this fine logical nuance?
The technique as I am describing it is not about "breaking traction to corner". It is a way of coping with poor or dangerously variable traction in slow corners -- sand over pavement, wet metal / paint, etc.
Most people tiptoe through such a corner, or overcook it and lose the front, but there is a middle way. By weighting the inside peg and letting the bike fall against your inside leg, while the body stays up, you can go faster through such a corner, keep the front planted, and maybe even play with the gas and get a little slide going. It has nothing to do with fast sweepers, racing, pwning 9, anything like that.
You see the difference between that and "rely on breaking traction on a sportbike to corner on the street. You know, like all the successfull racers do", yes?
The technique I described comes from a background of AFM and trials (Sacto PITS) applied to 14 years of riding Mines Road, since I live right next to the Livermore terminus of Mines and it made up 90% of my (excessive) twistie riding time.
As you can imagine, particularly after the storms and on the coldest winter days when there is ice in certain shady areas, traction is variable, and railing in those conditions is risky. So what's a railin' fool to do besides crashing a few times which I did? It is in those conditions, over many miles of experimentation, that I came to appreciate the value of the technique.
I believe it agrees with what I learned of dirt riding dynamics, and I am trying now to communicate it, in good faith, while you're copping a disappointing attitude. I expected better, given your other posts.
