Counter-Lean

Thats Nicky Hayden during the New Track introduction at Miller a couple years back.
Good guess! I think he had a different helmet that week, though.
see if they're ground off, but I'm gonna guess at Hailwood anyway. Just because he was so cool. (And it looks like one of the RC Hondas.) ;)
Yep. That's, grind my toes off, Mike. Ten years later into the racing, he might have been the first guy elbow down. Who knows. Tires and clearance stunk when he raced.

Back in those days, a 30 degree lean angle was considered radical.

They were NOT running the "pace" in that video. :x
Not enough trail-braking, either.
:teeth

Why does everyone think Roberts was first with the knee deal. If the tires/bikes were there, I think that this guy might have done it.

Anyone recognize (without cheating) who this non-counter leaner is?

Wasn't he in the "A-ha" video?

I agree, it's pretty irritating for people to say Kenny Roberts invented that riding style.
I've posted pictures of two guys in England who were hanging off before Kenny Roberts even graduated from flattrack to road racing.
The "coffeebar cowboys" of England were doing that on the street long before anyone tried it on the racetrack.

Mike Hailwood wasn't the first either, btw.

Holy Cow! this one came back from the dead! :laughing

Oh well, might as well throw another thought into it just for the hell of it :)

If your interest is in winning races, I would think you would want to get the bike upright as quickly as possible as soon as possible in the turn so you can get back on the power harder and sooner than the guy who leaned his bike over farther in the same corner.

MSF teaches slow into the corner, fast out... I think racers would say, slow into the corner, REALLY fast out :)

You know what I always say? Imitate success! Do successful racers do this "counter-lean" bullshit? Nope! Nuff said. This was a great thread.

I leans into the counter every time i am at the bar.

Yes, but I think the main point was if you lean on your opposite drink side or on the same drink side, and while we're on the subject, do you rest your foot on the bar rail on the ball of your foot or your heel?

I have quite a bit of Bar-time to, so I think I can say with certainty that you need to lean in the direction of whatever side the best looking woman is on.

No matter how I try to picture what the OP said, I can't accept it.

The body in the attack position in dirt riding, is not the perfect suspension. A pro using their body (and the bikes power) can sure do better than a rider that isn't so good, but... the biggie difference is in what the pro is doing with the body. It sure isn't perfect on it's own. And I'm not so sure perfect is a right word. Maybe damn good or amazing, but...perfect sounds so final, no more room for improvement.

I think the whole presentation by the OP is a butt load of mis-information, good thing he has dropped out of racing.

I heart this thread. Reminds me why I love the internet.
