Cycle Gear buying Revzilla

On the other hand, maybe CG just feels like they are tried of being the fit test for Revzilla orders.:laughing

Great news! I'm a fan of both CG and Revzilla - two companies that have done a lot for the MC community!

I hope they keep them running separately, but combine logistics to give us better prices & help them keep more profits. This could be a win for everyone if it goes through and is done right.

This also means sales will be subject CA sales tax

Yeah, but you'll have the advantage of in-store locations to manage shipped orders (for individuals).

+1 a startup success story for the Revzilla guys getting bought out.

Will be interesting to see what changes, will Revzilla operations continue under CG control or meld with CG.

On the surface, I'd guess things will appear the same. As Kurt intimated; brand sharing for the short term and maybe even long term. CG has abhorred the online market place (to their detriment) so much so, they never fully embraced it and it's pricing models, which cause margin problems at the brick-and-mortar locations. What changed this in traditional models was the ability to service/ exchange/ pickup online product at these BaM locations. That really suits CG's model well: keep essentials in stock for motorcyclists (on a whim/ day of need stuff) and have free of charge shipping for stuff ordered online.

With as much buying/ shelf power as CG has, they can offer free returns, etc at their stores for stuff ordered online. That's a pretty easy sell for someone like me who hates returning stuff that doesn't fit. Additionally, CG now has even more power with the merger to leverage distributers/ sellers to enforce pricing levels for all resellers equally. This holds up margins as well.

Thanks. People pay me money for this shit, so BARF, you're welcome. :laughing

Like I said, time will tell who's right, but that's what I'd do. :dunno

CG should have paid you long ago, Kurt. I also suspect that CG may use much of revzilla's inventory management as their old system has been known to be a POS. I'm not sure if they can backward integrate it into on site locations, but it would make sense to revamp the store ordering system with the more current and reliable, RZ system.

What we don't know are the devil's level in the details. I'd think either an installment sale on RZ and/or a commitment from the RZ guys for a set period of time as they transition out or are offered an ongoing opportunity. What I wonder is if and how much the stock swap may have been with RZ. If so, CG cut themselves a sweet deal trading equity like for like and less cash (which I'd bet pretty high dollars that is the case).

This is the best news we've seen for CG. Any huge online retailer with existing and profitable physical locations (100+) has opportunities others do not have. I also suspect CG will dump it's site and let RevZilla's brand managers/ tech group run that side of the business. Lord I hope that's how it works!

Damn, beat me to it. I wonder how he's gonna make out - the face of RevZilla. Dude looks like he'd be such a douche IRL, but I'll still watch the video reviews.

Anthony Sold Out?? I'm gonna miss "Watching, deciding, then riding..."

Lmao

"HEY this is Anthony at Revzilla tv where you can watch, decide & buy the new breakdown of the bullshit product Bilt leather tracksuit...at Revzilla.com!":teeth

:rofl:thumbup:teeth

With all this "love" for Cycle Gear, how are they still possibly in business???

I like how RevZilla's business model was eCommerce that took care of customers and offered honest reviews and helpful customer service.

Yes to everything but the honest reviews. Don't get me wrong, I watch their video breakdowns. However, they are a store and they are trying to sell the products in those videos. I am not sure I would call them reviews but perhaps I am picking nits.

As for the buyout I think Flying Hun is probably right. It doesn't make sense for them to change what they are currently doing.

Hell, this could mean more retail locations, like one here! :teeth

I understand that people don't want to see Revzilla turn into another BILT and sededeccciededii distributor. However I have some love for CG. They have treated me OK and where else am I going to buy a battery on Sunday or Monday?

guilty. I bought the Kilimanjaro and Kathmandu jackets this way.

But Revzilla was always open to exchanges no questions asked.

Cycle Gear buying Revzilla is bad news to me :(

I have to ask why?? Was the CG price that much higher than Revzilla after shipping? Also Cycle Gear price matches. :nchantr

Not to mention people bitch and complain that CG doesn't stock high end gear. :facepalm

OK I'll get off my soapbox.

No worries I can answer it. CG stock was limited to certain sizes in certain styles. My wife (at the time *ahem) was 5'1" and they didn't have the small jacket for her. But we used the Medium to arrive on the small. Same thing for me. CG had the XL but not the Large, and I just ordered a size down.

I didn't want to return to the store or wait to order in store, so we left. CG's website sucked. Revzilla was a few dollars cheaper, plus no tax and free shipping so we went with Anthony.

OK not having the item in your size is much better than finding your size then buying online. :ride

I just like to personally try out gear in store and like having the shops around to do so. I try to buy in the store whenever possible.

OK end thread derail and sorry for being a little accusatory.

Some of their "reviews" they do kind of point out glaring issues with things they sell, but it's not often. Still, they're useful for seeing if I'd even be interested in that product.

I don't hate CG. In fact, I like that they're around. My $70 Bilt boots ripped and I noticed one day at work. I was able to go after work to the CG nearby and get them exchanged in 5 min, no questions asked. It's great for that. The SF store has good service, too.

However, CG rarely carries anything other than Bilt, even if their site advertises it (like Firstgear and a couple other brands), so it's not even useful to be able to try things on in the store since you can probably only try on Bilt stuff. Their helmet selection is better but their helmet prices aren't any better than online. And as good as the SF store's service is, not all stores have great service (like SJ). Revzilla, OTOH, has amazing service and I don't want to see that diluted by Cycle Gear taking over. I also wouldn't want to see the reviews and Common Tread go away or have Revzilla peddle Bilt crap.

Dunno wtf ppl crying about, its not like cg did this last year and changed all of revzillas website or their inventory.

As far as i see it cg is a brick and mortar store buying a online ecommerce store. Good for them for branching out.

Complain rant and rave when you have some facts and sound ground to stand on, till then this maybe just a merge and both business continues doing exactly what they do now.

I like them both for different reasons. I buy entirely different things from each.

CG - the 7/11 of MC gear, cheap but always there and open. Good for oil, cheap gloves, cheap rain gear, locks, tire plugs, base layers, etc., etc.

Revzilla - Lots of selection, lots of sizes, high quality gear, great service, great on-line reviews and product videos. The stuff I buy from Revzilla tends to be expensive, e.g. Revit Dominator GTX pants at $899.
