Cycle Gear buying Revzilla

When JW Childs invested into another company, they fired...er....forced out the CEO, who was my old boss at another company...where he was forced out as CEO. Previous to that, he was forced out of another company as COO.

How are those companies doing now?

Sounds like you have a.local store run by idiots.... my experience at CG has always been the polar opposite at the modesto store... you should call corporate.. the squeaky wheel get the grease you know . Corporate number one goal is to.make happy customers.. a store run by idiots just want to clock in to get a check

San Jose Cycle Gear store is no better. It's been a year or more since I shopped there. The management there needed some management :)
They did have few good people there at one time, but....

First, y'all might want to refrain from announcing you don't pay use tax like you are supposed to. https://www.ftb.ca.gov/individuals/usetax.shtml

Second, that press release is hysterical :laughing

Last, this is off the equity fund's site:

"Tracy Wan joined Cycle Gear in March 2009, bringing with her a unique combination of senior executive level experience in specialty retail and finance. Prior to joining Cycle Gear, she served in several capacities at The Sharper Image, including Executive Vice President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer and eventually President and Chief Operations Officer since 1999. Under her leadership net sales grew to $760 million, representing an increase of more than 300% in six years, and generating the highest net earnings in the company’s history."

Wait, did you not read any of the above links? :afm199

CG isn't buying Revzilla. JW Childs and Revzilla founders are joining forces to create a parent holding company for both GB and ZLA. Matt, Nick, and Anthony (ZLA founders/officers) will continue to run operations at Revzilla. Companies will be kept separate, but brands will rely on each other's infrastructure for fulfillment, web platform, etc.

You're quoting my post, but I'm guessing you're not addressing me, since I posted no such thing. :confused

:dunno

How big would you guess Revzilla is?

Not sure. The most recent citation I found in a brief search was that they did over $20M in 2011. One presumes that they have been growing since then.

cg is good for the cheap shit.
revzilla is good for the good shit.

no need to "mix" anything. revzilla can get anything to shipped to you with in two days. even ordered tires and were on my porch after work the next day.

kinda like K-mart buying out macys. level of (or lack of) quality, sales and service, etc.

yes i did slum it and buy a bilt suit for riding dirt trails on my klr. it was a special pricing thing. gloves suck and the bucket is not so great,(foam lining thing) but the suit does keep me dry. but the zippers suck. very small/fine teeth needs bigger teeth.

both company's have gotten plenty of my moneys, but if revzilla is run by the same people that run cg. tires and such will cost too much even online.

As COO, they are doing much better after the mess he left them in. He lost one of their major distributors and it forced one of founders to come back to right the ship.

As CEO of the company I worked for...they have gone down hill. Turns out he was using the company has his own personal expense account for more than a decade. But their EBITDA was always good, so the VC company, who still owns the company, never batted an eye. He was fired after they learned of his "magical accounting" practices. He's a CPA by trade, go figure.

His recent stint...well, lets just say they company is doing but better overall.

Moral at all those companies sucked while he was in charge.:laughing

They say accounting is an art form. :laughing

Dude. Read Revzilla's blog post and FAQ linked on page 4. Revzilla is not going to be run by CG.

i suggest amending the thread title to 'CG and Revzilla acquired by holding company' or similar.

Don't forget to read their FAQ about it.

tl;dr: ZLA wasn't acquired. JW Childs and ZLA founders are teaming up to own both, while still keeping the two companies separate. Think Zappos & Amazon.

Essentially, a stock swap deal. Probably some cash infusion too for RZ guys. I'd love to see the details, but it sure sounds as if CG is playing sub to RZ in the new entity. Eventually, the two firms will be fully merged.

Your tires are already going to cost more online. Pricing standards etc.

Agreed. I think that they'll lean on each other for each other's expertise and infrastructure.
