Does Money Make You Mean?

I believe it turns the weak into mean people but for the most part money doesn't make you evil.

My parents are pretty well off and are the nicest people I know. Both volunteer and are constantly involved in the community.

The article is super bias because people who are rich are on cruise control. Their investments are across the board and all they do is check in weekly to ensure the plan they have laid out is still working. Now of course there are megalomaniacs out there that just want to fuck over everyone and take everything for themselves but they are a small percentage.

And they come in all sizes - from the hunded-aire to the millionaire. I suppose the difference would be effectiveness / scale..?

Having a large sum of money requires a willful ignorance on the nature of how that money was gotten.

:rofl Did you wake up and decide you had to type the most ridiculous sweeping generalization you've ever made on BARF?

So everyone with money got it in a nefarious manner, ignorant to the multitude of pain they simply must have caused others to get it? Is that you Mr. Lenin? :rofl

We really do get some nonsense threads sometimes here in Sink.

Maybe it depends on how they obtained their money. If it was inherited and never had to work for it I'd suspect that may not make for the most compassionate of characters.

I only know one rich (multi millions) person. She inherited two factories in China from her deceased mother and has someone else run them for her. She does not fit the description above but I still stick with my assumption.

I don't think you know what Leninism is if you think my opinions on money resemble lenin

Outside of the domestication of agricultural animals money is Probably the worst invention in the history of mankind

I've known people who earned their money on their own, those who were born into it, and those who were in between (from well off families but still worked for their wealth with a leg up in terms of schooling and connections).

I've seen all levels of the spectrum from those who are very charitable, marginally so, and those who are stingy and treat all others like crap. What I do tend to notice is that the charitable ones spend their charity on causes that they feel are important - for example, one person I know spends a rather large sum of cash on taking in retired horses. To some people, she may seem "mean" because she's not throwing her money at humans - but she's doing what she feels is important to creatures that have no control over their destiny.

And I've seen PLENTY of horrible people who are on the more poor side of things. I don't think money alone has a factor in whether someone is nice or not. Type A personalities may be more likely to have money, so that may skew results on that perception.

Im going to become a baby murdering holcaust denier who made his money on the tears of crack addicts

This is a really interesting article, I've never heard anything like it before. You know what would be a good experiment. Some rich guys should engineer a swap between an upper-class commodities broker and a bum. I bet the bum would turn insensitive and the rich guy would learn some valuable lessons and meet a hot, somewhat androgynous prostitute. Maybe they'd learn to respect each other and work together. Then the rich guys would be ruined, until a slumming prince playing a pauper gave them enough money to start over.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

Again, I never said it makes you mean, I said it corrupts and hsving s significant amount of money requires some willful ignorance on exactly how the origin of that money causes suffering

I think that describes only a certain group of wealthy people. The stereotypical spoiled trust fund kid who never worked a day for anything, has multiple servants that they act shitty to, and is just a general pain in the ass? Sure they're pretty ignorant. But someone who started with very little and worked their way up? I'm pretty sure they appreciate the value of a dollar and who gets stepped on to have so many dollars.

What do BARFers define as 'Rich/Rich People'?

That is a good question. If they're a homeowner in many parts of the bay area, they're already pretty much a millionaire. So what does the net worth have to be? Five mil net worth? But for sure, eight figure net worth I think would be undisputable.
