Does Money Make You Mean?

Well... I've enjoyed this "discussion" allot. It's been damned civil. Kevin, although your thoughts can be ambiguous at times, thanks for the peek inside your head. I mean that in a good way. :)

Absolutes in ambiguity won't be found. The majority, the bulk, 51% or better.

A huge portion of Hunan civilized history is full of wars And death started for "no reason" or rationalized unessacary reasons

If you want a peak inside Kevin's head, ask him how he feels about Cal Crutchlow.

But that implies that what was once okay must always be okay. It also implies that 'no reason' today must equate to 'no reason' yesterday. We know neither of these are true.

I also noticed that when I was in East Oakland, people there would drive slower than just about everywhere else. They would stop for people walking across the street. Which makes me think....

Why do people have to be so "on time"? What's the rush? So what if you're late?

Our society is constantly in a rush

I think I figured out why you'll never be wealthy

Rich people are passive aggressive in their assholiness. "Charity" is nothing more than a way to boost their public image.

The Rich Are Less Charitable Than the Middle Class: Study

Full Article:

A new study shows that middle-class Americans give a larger share of their income to charity than the wealthy.

The study, conducted by the Chronicle of Philanthropy using tax-deduction data from the Internal Revenue Service, showed that households earning between $50,000 and $75,000 year give an average of 7.6 percent of their discretionary income to charity.

That compares to 4.2 percent for people who make $100,000 or more. In some of the wealthiest neighborhoods, with a large share of people making $200,000 or more a year, the average giving rate was 2.8 percent.

$50-75k give 7.6%
$100k+ 4.2%
$200k+ 2.8%

Note how the more money you make, the less of a percentage you give.

Charity in general is just a business who's product is selling the feeling good about yourself

The Reasons For Bad Behavior Between Rich and Poor are Different

Full Article
http://knowledge.insead.edu/ethics/does-social-class-impel-bad-behaviour-3774

I investigated whether and how social class can predict when people are likely to behave unethically, and found that higher-class individuals are more likely to cheat when the unethical behaviour benefits the self but lower-class individuals are more likely to cheat when the unethical behaviour benefits another person. We argue that these tendencies stem from distinct motives: higher-class people, because they often feel powerful, look for ways to benefit themselves, while lower-class people, because they often feel powerless, look for ways to help others.

That being said I do donate to some animal based charities

The only charity i have donated to was in support of a specific goal they were trying to achieve.

I don't believe in blanket donations

I prefer to help those around me who I can directly affect

purely for selfish reasons

I want to know the effects exist

I think that's a function of reporting though. No one ever says "wow, he gave 4% of his annual" they say "wow, he gave $50,000"
