Why did they call it Maverick? That is the question.
You win one internets today Berto.
Sure it’s a catchy name. But it is a bit douchey taking the same of a coupe from decades ago and slapping it on a truck. But they are not the first to bastardize model names. Not even the first in their own company after the Mach E.
But really it comes down to cross promotion. You’ve got one of the biggest, most anticipated movies coming out this year which most projections have it returning over a billion dollars from the box office. Tom Cruise, who despite his wacky personal beliefs, everyone seems to like, and is reprising his role as one of the most household name movie characters of all time. Hell the character name is in the damn title of the movie this time. Maverick. Maverick. Maverick. Back in the 80’s people said that name all the damn time. People named their dogs Maverick. People gave themselves the nickname Maverick. So here were are today, that name will be in peoples heads all over again. And they will associate it with something cool…that movie. Not that meh car from way back when.
Wouldn’t that be some shit if Ford managed to product place the truck in that movie somehow? Doubt that’s the case. There is probably no promotional deal between Parmount and Ford. But I’m willing to bet that Ford’s choosing of the name Maverick timed around the hype of this new movie is no happy accident.
Looks more like Goose than Maverick.
