Get Well Soon Frong

How is Sami's arm? The original report was a broken arm and leg.

I was at t-hill monday, it was hot enough out of leathers in the shade...

Get well soon Sami.

sorry to hear it Sami, get well soon. Dammit, I bet money you wouldn't crash at all this year :kicknuts

and as for the turn workers, what about his pit buddies? where the hell did they think he was??????? Jesus, I know I am a nagging old bag, but christ, I always make sure everyone in our crew is back in the pits at some point or another. If I don't see someone for a while I keep nagging til I find out where they are. So who was he pitted with :confused

I was out at Thunderhill today. Apparently Frong had a pretty serious get off in turn 1.

I dont know you but I feel really bad about what happened to you and the circumstances involved. I dont want to get into the details about it cause I dont feel that it's my place to do so.

He had to be airlifted and had a fractured arm, leg, and concussion...

Heal up quick bro...

From what I heard his pit buddies were looking for him. maybe they assumed he couldn't have run off the track without anyone noticing.

Who was the trackday organizer? Just so I can make a note not to attend any of their track days. Not like I'm in any hurry :)

damn this thread is like a bad dream... how can this happen??? unbelievable!!! :mad

get well soon Frong, I feel for you man! :(

Heal quick bro, hope your already thinking about what your next bike will be.

This is my 1st day back on BARF, since my Surgery at Stanford.
I'm VERY sorry to hear what happened to Frong.
I live very close to Stanford and would like to go and visit him.
If anyone knows his last name, please PM me so I can go and visit him.
Get Well soon Bro.

Same here, I've never met frong, but I'm close to stanford and if his family friends dont' mind i'd like to say wasup too. PM me details if need-be

I see this as an atypical accident and something you don't expect.

I've been only to a handful of trackdays and I've seen slow reactions from some corner works as well. Someone gets off, they lag a bit...then finally a yellow flag. but in teh end, they are human too and can't be perfect about things. But sometimes the actual procedures and planning could be closer to perfect.

As for the legalities...If I were him or his family, I would consule wtih someone regarding all of this.

Frong seemed to be doing extremely well for his 1st year of track riding and I wish him the best of luck and that this accident doesn't hinder his wish to ride again another day!

I also predict this to be the longest frong thread w/o frong actually posting

fr0ng, heal up quick buddy and come back 100%.

Guys, Please keep you legal advice to yourself.

Sorry to hear this Frong....
Glad you are gonna make it as this one sounded
hella serious....
Heal up and remember: CHICKS DIG SCARS...
Think of the stories you can tell your kids
someday...

Wow. I'm shocked, stunned and dismayed.

This didn't happen at one of my track days but because all the track day companies rely on Thunderhill to provide the trained and experienced workers this could have happened to anyone.

I hope Sami's pit mates talked to the organizer as part of their search for him. I know the only time something like this happened at one of my days (someone was missing for 10 minutes), we immediately shut down the track, started rolling the ambulance, etc, only to discover that the missing person had parked at one of his friend's pits further down the paddock. I was shocked that day, too, because I couldn't imagine anyone having an off-track incident that was not seen by a worker. We (and all motorcycle track days) have workers staffing start/finish, T3, T5, T7, T9, T11. From those turn boxes you CAN see the entire track. Where Sami crashed IS an extremely unusual place but we have had mechnical breakdowns coast to stops in pretty much the same place without losing track of them (they can be seen and monitored from the T3 station).

Since I read about this incident this morning I've been really thinking hard about how this type of freak incident could be avoided in the future. When I say "freak incident" I really mean it. Between us, the major and smaller track day organizers literally have provided service to thousands of days and hundreds of thousands of riders and I've never heard of an incident even close to this before now.

But we're in the business of providing the safest environment for motorcycle testing and education so we need to plan to avoid this type of incident. I've been thinking hardest about how to improve the on-track staffing so that no-one could ever slip through the net again. Putting a worker in the T1 box is an obvious requirement. A worker in the T8 box would help remove what I now (with hindsight) see as another potential blindspot.

Thoughts about additional locations? I will distill these thoughts and communicate them to Thunderhill.

Wow Frong,
Small comfort to you now, but you've got one hell of a story to tell your kids someday. Heal soon, your missed here.

Thats fucked up Sami.

One of the main reasons I like to go to racetracks is the emergency staff.

There is no reason for not staffing with corner workers and I'm hope that after this unfortunate incident there will be no more trackdays without a full staff.

If he would have had internal bleeding, he would have been dead when they found him.

This is one of the most disgusting things I've ever heard.

Sorry it had to happen to you Bro.

get well soon sammi. i know this isn't any consulation to you, but your get off is going to make track days that much safer for the rest of us.

:wow That really sucks, dude. Sorry to hear about yuor spill, and the fact that they just fucking left you there. :mad Get well soon, Bro!

Not sure who you run the car days with, but so far the auto days have been on par with bike days regarding cost (about 170 for a one day, 250 for a two day) through NASA, and the track is almost FULLY staffed, most flag stations, and a complement in the main control tower.

I've done many car test days at Thunderhill as well as probably 7 other tracks, and there have been days where I said to myself "Don't go off HERE, nobody will see you." Often there were only 2 or 3 workers on the whole track.

Get well soon, Sami, remember that you WILL be back to 100%......some days during recovery it won't feel like it, but you will be back to full health eventually!
