If you are interested in an EV

So....based on your post...AI think you live and look like this. How close was it? :p

got lost once on the backroads of kentucky. didn’t see that exact scene. but came across a shack with a dish antenna out front that was bigger than the shack. and a similar looking dude, but this one was sporting a mean glare.

LOL Yoda, good one! Off grid homes are at a whole new level these days due to the remote land w/o infrastructure being lower priced. The savings typically pay for the energy system. I'm a retired solar contractor and have done some stunning homes/villa's. 17,000 s.f. in Mexico and 60,000 s.f. on a private island in Panama and a couple dozen eco-resorts with massive energy demands. Sky's the limit and thr cost is very attractive. I've not had a utility bill or power failure in over 40 years.

The AI has pointed the arrays away from the sun in a well of trees.
Should be running for office.

... I'm not.
… I am.

Or might be.

EVs are perfect for people to think they drive less miles than others, while driving the same or more ;) they’re also good for disrupting the flow of traffic by randomly using the regenerative braking for no reason, just to back up the cars behind them. Finally they’re also good in cities!!!

That is awesome stuff. :thumbup

I remain energy dependent and have no interest in an EV car. The rumble of my V8's is a perk of my ICE ICE Baby rides that make me $mile.
Thinking I will paint the Vette soon to have two OG Ice vehicles that defy their age. I am a bad boy considering I have two chargers in my garage that are ignored.

Used EV under 25k also get like $3-4k in rebates, wonder if that disappears
Yes, that is also going away.

My SIL bought an EV6 as she needed a new car anyway and loves it after her BMW 3 series.

She already had solar.

Will be taking it up to Ashland this year so we'll see how that goes; only one stop required each way, the car with the right charger gets an 80 percent charge in 20 minutes.

100 percent a little over 300 miles IIRC.

Huge back seat.

I'll only own an EV if I live long enough that it's mandated and I have to (certainly a possibility.)
I still prefer big heavy, gas-guzzling vehicles that have lots of leg room. :x
I automatically just move the driver's seat all the way back on any car I drive. I only recall one vehicle where that was too far back for me... a VW beetle. :laughing

Chevy was offering $21500 rebate and Costco was adding $3000 incentive so we jumped. Bought a Brightdrop 400 AWD with Max.Battery package. The fleet manager at Fremont Chevrolet is a freaking boss! Don’t think we could have navigated the process without him.
Can you please clarify rebate amount? $2150.00 or $21,500.00?

What was your total cost? was that the big one or the smaller one?

We went the shorter one with AWD and max battery.

Mini programed my JCW so that it has a nice burble on deacceleration. I love it, even if its only 1600 cc’s.

$21,500.00 Sorry for the vagueness. If we had acted before May 30th it would have been $25,500
The van is INCREDIBLE! There's a company in Detroit doing conversions.
The weight underneath the van gives it a slot car feel with zero sway. We purchased the 400 AWD with the max battery pack which has very little overhang front or rear so the perceived turning radius is tiny.
As an ICE addict I am surprised at the giggles and grins this thing produces. I'm certain there will be many hacks showing up on the internet. Does it need more power and torque? FUUUUUUUUU***k NO! No no no no no! We would for sure die. Do we want to show up at Sears point and do our best imitation of Sabine Schmitz. Oh yeah.

Kentucky is a scary place, especially the southeast corner of it.

In the 90s I came across a dude on the side of the road selling used hubcaps. And another guy selling used "battrys"

$150,000 income limit on those EV tax credits

California requires an MSRP below $60k the federal requires MSRP below $80k.

It was all very confusing. The credits initially were larger and wound up going to folks in much higher brackets.

went up to truckee a couple of days ago. stopped for a smoke at a mostly truck stop, but there were a shit ton of charging stations out back. bunch of people milling round waiting for their cars to charge. the looks on their faces kinda reinforced if for me - can’t say i’d be up for that any time soon.

ICE is still better for long road trips. But for around town EVs are great, just charge at home. Its really nice to never get into your car and realize that you need to make a detour to the gas station.

yeah - can appreciate that. wrt what we saw, 80 through that corridor has a lot (likely majority) of long distance travelers. vehicles we encountered appeared to be that sort. especially where they were stopped (near the summit). that said, if all you’re going is around town though, fuel is rarely a detour. more like a 5 minute pull in and pull out en route. considering that 1 minute of that (engaging the pump) is equivalent to plugging in and unplugging an EV, we’re talking about a 4 minute differential over 300 miles (average EV range). currently, i’ll take those 4 minutes over waiting 20, hanging out around a charging station on a long haul trip.

The dozen chargers at our remote top of the mountain exit are always busy and never full. The market had to build a restroom to accommodate them. They tell me it is a pleasant stop to stretch the legs and appreciate the local beauty. When I asked the clerk at the market what they are buying, she said “Oh, Smart water, so much Smart water!” lol and sure enough there is a huge display of that right at the front door. The future is here already, like it or not, and it has fast acceleration. Haven’t they added fake engine rumble/noise pollution and fake exhaust into the cockpit for all the sticks in the mud yet?
