If you have to give up a #1 or a #2 for a proven Top 5 pass rusher, you do that immediately.

It Pre-Season, Bro, erebody rough.
Did you see it? He's celebrating then like a goal line running hole lineman comes over and bumps/congrats him and he did a Friday "you got knocked the fuck out" spin fly move in the air lolol
a second string QB with very little experience is a touch different situation than a 2-time probowler and only person to be elected to probowl at 2 positions in the same season.
lol yeah they're so thrifty they paid a player with 7 games experience the highest salary ever. fucking tightpursed grannys they are.

It's a gamble with out clauses in it. It's basically a 3 year deal paying him while they have a fuckton of cap room, and then 2 more years where they can get back a ton of his cap hit if they need to cut him.
It's not like it's the Brock Osweiler deal.
I’m not arguing they are averse to spending money. I’m arguing they are doing so while covering their own asses as much as possible - they are factoring in the intangibles in NFL career longevity and practice vs play productivity. And they’re doing it with a high level of success which shows that they are not going to just splurge without factoring in and balancing the risk. Not every team does this well. Marathe does.

I think it's a good gamble. Not a frugal gamble, but a good one.
Okay. Now we are somewhat on he same page. I don’t think Marathe/Lynch are going to sacrifice a 1 or 2 for a defender at this point in the build. If the team were solid on offense and everything were clicking along smoothly and a defender came up who had the right fit to fill a nagging hole I could see it happening. As it is now it’s just not worth the risk. The team needs the value in a future pick more than an all-pro defender at this point.
If I can see this as a barely knowledgeable fan I’m sure it’s a huge flag for Marathe/Lynch.
