NFL 2018/2019 Thread

What I don't get are the calls to start Mayfield after that loss... Taylor's scoring pass was amazing.

People will just do that with a dude in the wings. Even if it isn't a move that makes sense and the problem is elsewhere.

I now understand why we couldn't draft a QB. They knew the O-Line would be garbage in NY. If you pick a QB, they are calling for Eli's head within 2 weeks, so new guy can get David Carr'd behind a garbage line and you wreck your next 8 years of QB juggling with a hacked off vet who demands a trade and busted 1st rounder shuffling in terror for the next 5 years.

At least with 'Quan we have a guy that should have some gas left as we fix the line over the next couple of seasons.

It's just business. Do your job or get replaced. I didn't think it was cold blooded.

The kicker has one job. One. Kick the damned ball. If they can't do that it's not like a coach can say, "Yeah, but at least he does x, y, z well." If your kicker is costing you games, after every other part of the team has put you in a position to win, it's time to cut 'em.

Losing a game because one guy can't do one thing is not excusable. Now, imagine how it would reflect on a coach if they didn't do anything? And I'm not talking about how the rabble views it. Imagine the player revolt that would take place if the coach allows one person to erase all the work and effort of the other 52 players because they can't seem to handle the single responsibility they have.

^yep and it's not like he/they missed one figgie. 3 each, and an extra point (for the former Browns guy)

Yeah, like if it was that ONE 55 yarder, maybe dude gets some slack, but c'mon.

If the rest of the team just did their jobs they wouldn't even NEED a kicker!

It's not like the rest of the team didn't do their jobs. Or didn't do at least enough to set the team up for the win. And it's not like the effort to accomplish what they did went un-opposed. There is an entire team's worth of opposition to overcome in setting up a score whether it be 3 or 6. What opposition does a kicker have to face? None. Just kick it. If it's done correctly that's all a kicker has to do. The situation would be completely different if the kicks were blocked.

P.S. Lemme see...if the rest of the team works itself into positions to score and one guy fails to bring home the points who should we look at replacing? The 52 or the 1? :twofinger

Oh yea I know, but the whole " YOU HAVE ONE JOB" thing is kind of bunk.

The defense has ONE job - don't give up points.

The offense has ONE job - score more than the other team.

etc etc

Besides, it's the fuckin Vikings. Missing game winning kicks is part of their history, it doesn't actually matter WHO the kicker is.

Kinda nice to see Janikowski hit that 56 yarder.

No, no, no...each person on the team has a job (some have multiple jobs). The kicker's job has a single facet. Kick. The. Ball. Every other position has multiple facets.

Don't get me wrong. Kicking the ball to the desired point is not easy. I'm not saying it's simple. But playing football at the NFL level isn't easy at any position. That's why it's a highly coveted job (by some) and the pay is pretty damned good.

Can't argue with the last line. :thumbup

Well, for starters, the Kicker usually has 3 jobs. Field Goals, Extra Points, and Kick Offs. Most coaches will tell you the 3 jobs I listed are in order of importance. The Punter is usually another guy. This guy missed an extra point, which is his job even WHEN the offense does their job, and multiple field goals.

I'm not the one that said he had one job, I was responding to another post :dunno

Looks like Antonio Brown didn't come to work on Monday after putting up his, "Trade Me," tweet. Bell is still holding out. I feel like the Steelers locker room is imploding right now, where is Elbacalo when you need him? :laughing

So, does Chucky get fired this season, or does Bowl Cut keep him around for another one?

Way to blow $100 mil and your team's best player :laughing
