I have disciplined myself to remember the following: as long as Jimmy Ga-gotta-go is the QB, the team is not worth watching in real time for me or you. DVR and fast-forward. Do not lose valuable gym time for them, your health is so much more important. At 65, this is really true for me. The gym is keeping me sane right now, and giving me hope for my health.
It's really too bad because the defense at times is spectacular, except the backfield, due to injury, pure and simple. They play as hard as they can and deserve a better QB than constantly having to clean up Jimmy's messes.
Likewise, Kittle, Deebo and even their runners are worth watching but you ARE going to be disappointed by Jimmy's periodic Oh-No passes or open receivers he misses. And I love the complexity at snap that Shanahan cooks up, presumably in coordination with his OC. Often the cameras can't even keep up with what is happening.
I have loved the Niners since the Walsh era (I basically grew up a Raiders fan until they went to LA). I want to root for the team and I even feel that Jed York has paid his penance and put together a good organization. But no matter how great he looks one day, Jimmy's strongest "feature" is his inconsistency. He's lovable, faithful, confident. The guys like him. But he is just not good enough week-in-week-out to be a starting QB in the NFL. His win-loss ration, often touted as proof of his goodness, is the work of the others actually, especially with the run game that covers for his inability to throw a long pass.
My only other beef is special teams play. That coach needs to go at the end of the season unless he's got the world's best excuse of why not. It just "hasn't worked out."
But, even having said all that, they still have a chance into playoff season as long as we get good and sharp Jimmy, not high and wide passer Jimmy. You never know. That's the roller-coaster of this era.
