I didn't say he went faster than me, just that he was fast - in spite of the bike being slow according to you. Didn't seem to slow him down, although I'm not sure he was interested in being faster.

As for that logic: I think he didn't care what anyone else thought about the bike - it was right for him. It certainly went fast enough, and he rode it a lot so it was good for distance as well, which seemed to be his thing. It wasn't a "shitty bike" by any measure other than yours, which is seriously flawed.

Good bikes are good in context. Want a good bike for posing at Starbucks? Get a Duc or a Harley. Posing in the Mission with your hipster friends? Sportsters, new Bonnies, and "cafe" CBs are good bikes. Want to rack up tons of miles at a good clip? There are lots of good bikes for that too - and it appears "slow" bikes work just fine for that, in spite of your insistence otherwise.

So tell us - what's a good bike if I'm looking to have my mom run over it, and then spend a lifetime talking trash on the web, without apparently ever riding a motorbike?

I have a BMW 850R that I have had for the past 2 years. It is a 1998 and is good condition. I am making some changes in my life and unfortunately am selling it. It has not been ridden for the past three months and the battery is dead. The only problem that needs fixing on this bike is the speedometer cable. If you are serious about the motorcycle and can put it in on your trailer, etc, then contact me. I am a pastor of a church and have no desire to sell something that is damaged and I can promise you this has been a great bike for me. I am not looking to lower the price. It really is a great motorcycle and I know who ever gets it will enjoy it. I have two plastic storage bins that attach to go with it.

The 850 is a bad bike because it was shitty when I rode one, every magazine review said it was shitty, and it was so shitty that BMW decided to stop making it.

At first you made it sound like you ran into the ghost of Steve McQueen but now your saying that guy wasn't fast. So basically you met someone, who came off as mentally unstable at first impression, was old, was slow, and rode a shitty bike for 20k miles a year. That's who we should base our purchasing decisions off of? Him?

Well yea, if I were old and couldn't think straight and wanted to ride many many miles slowly I cold see getting that 850.

Yea and my logic is flawed. You're making bike purchase decisions based on how good you look in different parts of San Francisco with it and I'm the one with logic issues.....cuz I don't want to ride a shitty riding bike.
For fucks sake, no one would ever call a Sportster a good bike.

check the mileage on it, the ad does not say, I don't want something that has a ton of miles. I like my RT, but that thing is just a tad too heavy, otherwise, a great bike. I did attempt to offer a trade on CL for a GS+cash. no takers.....

Why would anyone give advice on bikes on anything other than their own criteria? I like riding good bikes that are fun to ride. That's how I give my advice. So are you now saying that you also wouldn't buy that 850?
I thought we were talking about that cheap 850 that most likely doesn't exist.......cuz it's a weird ad, and it's too cheap, and he's too godly, and he used a magazine picture without his luggage Tupperware or whatever he called it.
Of course I'm clueless. I don't know anything about you. Why you would say something is a goods bike, even though it doesn't meet your criteria is beyond me. Then you mentioned some other junk that was good for posing, one of which was a Sportster, which is shitty to ride, and even shittier to pose on in any HD circle that cares about posing.
