Official BARF BEER Crew

I did not. A good friend had entered a few different categories but, unfortunately, came out empty handed :( A real disappointment because his stout was fucking fantastic.

Edit: IIRC he entered a stout, saison, kolsch, and helles. According to him, his helles tasted identical to the winning one :laughing

LOL yeah.
1) Wanna guess why I don't buy at Costco? For the ease of being misled into pointless buying like that. So your link says you've bought G.Biersh..

2) There's been an overload of Crafty-ness it seems. Too many doesn't mean they'll be all good?

3) of course the mislabeling of the big companies. What was the craft beer made in a factory by Bud? =) because it was owned by Bud////AB..AB-InBev.

You can't get much fresher Lagunitas IPA than at Costco and you sure can't beat the price.

Would like to taste some of his beer. I don't know if I tried a helles lager before. Is Heineken a helles beer?

There is a Homebrew guy that is suing Coors/Miller for misrepresenting Blue Moon as a craft beer when most or even all their beer is made at the Coors/Miller plant. I think the Blue Moon brewery place is just a lab/testing place now.

Oh my..
the other word for 'helles lager' is The Beer. :) also you can call it 'The German Beer'.. unless you order a 'dunkles' lager of course :laughing

this looks pretty new.

BTW think about it, if "this guy" wins the lawsuit against Blue Moon, what are they gonna do, sue Sam Adams (and Gordon Biersch) next? Check that out, Sam adams is called a craft beer, at least in the movies.. (I don't call sam adams craft beer)

Guy won't win, because their is no rules or laws put in place of what is "craft" beer. It's just an agreement between all the breweries what is consider "craft" beer. Really, who doesn't know that Blue Moon isn't owned by Coors/Miller.

He works at Oak Barrel Winecraft in Berkeley. They always have something on tap from the folks who work there. Ask for Ben, tell him Chris sent you in. Heineken isn't a helles. Augustiner is probably the benchmark for that style.

On a related note, I stopped in at Faction again yesterday. Their beers are still fantastic! The bbq@lux food truck was there again too. They make some damn fine eats!

Ben is awesome. I made a pretty good helles last year. Might make another one soon.

So... I suspect some (many? None? Only two?) 'craft breweries' to have somewhat unclean distillation process..

.. leading to me headache.

The theory is, basically you can make any sugary drink; but then if you lack the % of pure alcohol, you simply up that % by adding pure ethyl alcohol. That's what can be called 'unclean' and can create a headache.

Let's not even get into worse cases like using methyl alcohol. I hope/suspect that doesn't happen here in the reputable West Coast, right?

p.s. proud owner of a fresh growler from a certain place in Alameda from last Saturday... but the above is still valid;

You didn't expect this bomb did ya!

A lot of that can be attributed to fusel alcohols that are produced during high fermentation temps.
