Older TV shows

old cartoons from the 80s are pretty horrific to watch now. I'm like damn I thought this was the best show evar when I was 8 and now...wtf is this garbage lol

Zeta Gundam is still top 3 of the whole metaseries.

Also never get tired of Lupin the 3rd.

The original Thundercats is awesome. Watched it with my young son when it was new in 1985.

Very underrated... :laughing

Back to OP's post, the "Wiseguy" series was pretty good for a couple of seasons, the most interesting story arc featured a then unknown pre-"Me Too" Kevin Spacey as the global drug and gun dealing crime boss with a super hot sister, Joan Severance, that had a rather "close" relationship....

The show was pretty unique for the late 80's

Johnny Quest
Fantastic Voyage
Star Trek (cartoon)
Marine Boy
Kimba the White Lion
Speed Racer

The last three listed were my introduction to anime - KEMO TV channel 20 FTW!

I grew up in San Francisco. In the days before cable, the rabbit ears on top of the set provided my wireless service.

If cartoons are a sub-category then I need to include Underdog in to the conversation.

have never been inspired to, but this has aroused my curiosity. no clue though what’s worth watching. most television is total shit. is older stuff better?

LB, I would say TV in modern days is overall better. Someone rating their favorite shows may still put many older shows higher on their list but I said overall on purpose because we aren’t bound by a 24 hour day anymore to broadcast whatever is chosen to be broadcast.

What I’m getting at is that opened the door for studios to make tons of shows that might appeal to a much smaller audience on a more obscure topic/genre. On a 24/7 time constraint, they have to decide what gets aired. Most funded, most advertised, some other reasons. Or maybe it’s on at 2am in the morning. Now, we might get 40 hours of new shows dropped on a Friday.

I’ve watched a number of shows on [insert service] that never got much of any promotion and no one was talking about it. A lot of shows I like would not have been made 20-30 years ago because there was literally not enough time in the day for all of them.

That’s just one man’s opinion. Might have been an unhelpful semi-tangent.

Kinda like music. People might say current music sucks but there’s still tons of great music out there being made every day. Just might have to look harder to find it cuz it ain’t on the radio.

It’s been awhile and I’ll take it, as always. :party

I’m not known for being brief. My fault on that. Ultimately I guess I was trying to say there’s something out there to watch for everyone, which wasn’t the case 20-30 years ago.

Nostalgia makes 'em tolerable, like when the station has a theme for CHiPs and runs all the episodes about bad guys on motos (for example) for a week or two. They're fun to watch for the old bikes and cars but the plotlines and acting are garbage compared most of today's offerings.

Watch David Hasselhoff's evil twin driving KITT's evil twin in an epic battle of testosterone-laced vehicular superiority? YOU HAD ME AT HASSELHOFF'S EVIL TWIN.

Watch an episode of 'Cannon' where all the hot chicks swoon over the bowling ball of a detective while muscled hoodlums are too scared to fight him even as he's wheezing and out of breath from getting out of the car? SIGN ME UP FOR HALF AN HOUR OF THAT.

:laughing

Plus you get to see current actors early in their fledgling careers. Little bit of 21 Jump Street? Mmm bop you betcha.

Recently watched Johnny Carson from the last year of Carter. Lot of inflation jokes! He was on at 10:30 in the Midwest and it took a special occasion to be allowed to stay up late thus I became a fan of the forbidden fruit.
