Older TV shows

Nostalgia makes 'em tolerable, like when the station has a theme for CHiPs and runs all the episodes about bad guys on motos (for example) for a week or two. They're fun to watch for the old bikes and cars but the plotlines and acting are garbage compared most of today's offerings.

Watch David Hasselhoff's evil twin driving KITT's evil twin in an epic battle of testosterone-laced vehicular superiority? YOU HAD ME AT HASSELHOFF'S EVIL TWIN.

Watch an episode of 'Cannon' where all the hot chicks swoon over the bowling ball of a detective while muscled hoodlums are too scared to fight him even as he's wheezing and out of breath from getting out of the car? SIGN ME UP FOR HALF AN HOUR OF THAT.

:laughing

Plus you get to see current actors early in their fledgling careers. Little bit of 21 Jump Street? Mmm bop you betcha.

I was more fearful of Barnaby Jones because I figured Granny was lurking around somewhere, waiting to pounce with vittles, moonshine, or a double barrel shotgun!

I was catching old episodes of Adam-12 and was mesmerized by the cars in the backgrounds of street scenes....

The original Thundercats is awesome. Watched it with my young son when it was new in 1985.

Watch the an episode of Thundercats, then close your eyes and listen to an episode of Silver Hawks.

As for old shows i could probably watch some of?

Sledge Hammer
Married with Children
Jeffersons
Mama's Family
3's Company
Syfy channel started doing Quantum Leap marathons. I couldn't do it though.
I watched a few Greatest American Hero episodes not too long ago when i came across them.

I wonder if i could still watch the Fall Guy

"Space: Above and Beyond" from the 90s

have never been inspired to, but this has aroused my curiosity. no clue though what’s worth watching. most television is total shit. is older stuff better?

No. The best modern shows are better than the best old ones. There's so much today and not all the shows are the best and most aren't what I want to watch. But some are. And there's probably something you'd enjoy too.

No. The best modern shoes are better than the best old ones.

This is such a good point but it stops short of one detail. Those old shoes often laid the foundation for a better generation of shoe down the road. David Chase's relationship with The Rockford Files and then later The Sopranos is a perfect illustration of this point. It wasn't just technology that had to evolve to provide the programming we have now. Davis Chase said in an interview a few years back that The Rockford Files would have looked much more like The Sopranos if he wasn't constantly at war with "The Sensors". Also, Networks began to prefer sitcoms because they were cheap to make, never went over budget and came in on time.

When it comes to movies though, there are old movies that are every bit as good, or better, than most
new movies.

Dr. Zhivago, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, Big Country, Jeremiah Johnson, so many awesome old movies.

For reasons I can't explain and will not defend, I have seen probably every episode of Who's The Boss, many of them multiple times. A few months ago my partner was watching the series again, and it was wild for me as the couch co-pilot. I couldn't always remember the plot of the episode, but more often than not I could remember what the next few lines were strictly through what felt like muscle memory.

I think it was just on in syndication on the weekends at a time that I also spent doing homework. I caught a lot of ST:TNG that way too.

Thundercats was a childhood favorite. I made the mistake of watching it for the nostalgia and it is fucking terrible :laughing

Transformers the movie is flawless.

If you want to talk about really ancient TV shows from before the beginning of time, I would say check out Band of Brothers, Firefly, and The Mighty Boosh.

Oh to be so young :facepalm

It is important to remind people that we are not old because of how we feel, or what our experiences are, we are OLD AS FUCK, because of how young adults are now.

If you are not sure, go to the bar and ask someone legally drinking in there that was born AFTER Band of Brothers came out what their favorite show was growing up. :laughing

We old AF now, Chess.

Curious if anyone else is young enough that they remember the late night Adult Swim cartoons.

Recently got reminded of a show called Moral Orel in particular. I only ever saw a few episodes of it when it was showing initially but I've gone back and watched a few, it's... interesting.
(linking because it's probably borderline inappropriate at the very least, even though it's Claymation.)

If you're in a bar and someone born after the premiere of band of brothers is drinking legally, you are in Europe.

The Adult Swim shows were pretty darn weird as I recall.

And, the be honest, I didn't care much for BoB. We watched in recently, I never saw the whole thing before, and it was .. ok.

I will, however, thrown "From the Earth to the Moon" over the wall and into the ring.

Adult Swim always struck me as a little odd. I'm old enough that Bay Area Fox affiliate would run episodes of Macross, Southern Cross and Genesis Climber Mospaeda (adapted and rebranded as Robotech) as an after school cartoon. Characters would get naked, have sex, die violently, etc - it was an anime-ass-anime. I think Fox just figured "it's a cartoon! It's for kids!" and never paid attention to the content.
