PGE our friendly Bay Area Utility

Sounds simple; yet no other state provides electricity to 39,000,000+ customers.
And That’s every day every minute. It’s not easy.

I will grant you that its not easy Chuck. That does not mean that we should expect less or tolerate the worst aspects of a monopoly.

I do want to give props to the rank and file PG&E employees who keep the lights on. I think everyone respects the difficult and dangerous work that gets done, especially during bad weather. Thank you Linemen and women!

The beef is with management, pricing and accountability.

Since sumpin’ was posted earlier I got curious and looked it up.
Actually TN gets almost twice as much power from nukes as from coal. 12.2c/kwh

Nuclear: 43.1%
Coal: 22.2%
Natural gas: 17.6%
Hydroelectric: 15.7%
Biomass: 0.8%
Solar: 0.4%
Petroleum: 0.1%

Yeah, TX doesn't appear to have the most reliable grid...

In 2019, PG&E turned off the Power to most of my City for 5 DAYS, because their grid, "wasn't safe." The cell phone towers died on Day 2. The Land Line Phones went dead on Day 3. For the rest of that time there was literally no way for anyone to contact Police or Fire in case of an Emergency. No Ambulance could know you needed them.

You could not buy gas at local stations, so I hope you filled up before you got home so you could leave the City.

Spare me on energy reliability in CA.

ATT is pretty great out here. Our power was out for something like 10-11 days several years ago and the local tower was always up. We have a backup phone with Mint and I think they use T-Mobile's network and it's totally down whenever the power is out.

Sure is a lot of hate here for PG&E when the fixed rate initiative was hidden in a budget bill that originated in the legislature as an attempt to improve equity.

Not saying you should love PG&E, but you really should be hating on your rep that we put into power. Write them, call them, respectfully share your disgust with them so that they may tell their leadership that they need to be more respectful of their citizens.

Or maybe they are doing exactly what the majority of voters want them to do.

Lower-income customer bills will go down from around $0.60-$18.10. Others may be saving about $4.20 but may see an increase of up to $11.50.

I said Texas' energy grid isn't reliable, not that California's is.

I live in Shingletown, just east of Redding. 2 of the 3 biggest fires in the area were started by PG&E power lines fell onto trees and brush. One fell because the hanger holding it hadn't been inspected in 99 years. They plead guilty to 84 felony manslaughter charges for the deaths of citizens of Paradise. The Dixie fire, caused by a tree reported laying on PG&E power lines two DAYS with them taking no action, burned almost a million acres and wiped out the town of Greenfield. Nobody went to prison, the executives got golden parachutes and bonuses. The company needs to be broken up. It's a corrupt behemoth and has shown nothing but contempt for it's customers and the land

Mad

I build a wild amount of solar systems on private multifamily real estate in the State of California. As a result, I have to deal With all of the Big 3 California energy companies, So Cal Edison, PG&E, SDG&E. I even occasionally have to work with oddball outfits like SMUD, CleanPower, etc.

PG&E is just flat out the worst of all of them in every single way.

CPUC should be cleared out and rebuilt from the top down, it's rotten to the core and has been a corrupt organization for decades.

Clearly, but furthering that discussion is Polisink material...

Endlessly seeking that magic combination of rules to force us to be decent people. We'll find it someday, I'm just sure of it!

Back on February 23, 2024, PG&E announced its profits for 2023 surged to over $2.2 billion - a jump of almost 25 percent! :wow

And in the latest billing statement there is yet another rate increase request from PG&E. This new request to the CPUC they are asking to collect $417 million, over a one year period starting in January 1, 2025. This increase is for continued operations of the Diablo Canyon Power Plant to promote statewide grid reliability.

I really really do not want to hear the brave linemen bit to justify this racketeering operation, but i have heard it so often I am forced to scream in capital letters.

Once and for all IT IS NOT THE BRAVE LINEMEN WHO ARE COOKING UP THE QUARTERLIES AND CRIMINAL CONSPIRACY WITH THE PUC. Just stop with that noise. The comments above are ample validation that we have a uniquely bad corporate capture in place. There is no excuse for the excessive gouging; just our impotence in having diligence and recourse to effect change. None. This is why TURN exists. I hate the gaslighting that goes on with this topic and brave linemen is one of them. Sure, some are heroic, no doubt.

I’m extremely happy with PG&E. the service they provide has been a constant unrelenting unfluctuating voltage. PG&E has been very dependable and problem free.
I have a large fish tank that relies on PG&E for the circulation and oxygen and I’ve had the tank over 30 years. No power issues.
Bill has always been concise and accurate.
Thank you, PG&E for the service you provide please keep it up.

* no speculation just reality ~ fact.

So you're the one! I always figured there had to be one person happy with pge, somewhere. Someone actually happy, not a pge bot review, but an actual person.

Certainly not trivial, but not as hard as you seem to think, all things considered. That's why many states are able to do it for a fraction of what PG&E can manage. And no, it isn't the minimum wage that accounts for it, it is years of gross mismanagement.

Nope. My Generac 22kw consumes about 3 gallons of propane per hour at full load. Last time I had tanks filled it was $3.89 per gallon. That works out to 53 cents per KW/h

As of 4/1, my PG&E peak rate is up to 51 cents per KW/h.

That's one rate increase or social engineering fee away from being cheaper to produce myself on the rare occasions where cloud cover prevents solar/battery from covering my usage.

In fact, if they go through with the income-based fee structure they've been talking about I'm seriously considering telling them to come get their meter.

we have a 24kw generac. two winters ago we lost power for 13 days (snowmaggedon). we are on a meter for our propane (plumbed propane from 6 huge tanks that service 14 homes). the bill for that month was a little over $1,500. i’m too lazy to chase down the bill and do the math, but have never had a PG&E bill that was even half that. not that they don’t suck. we also got evacuated during the 80,000 acre mosquito fire - which last i heard, PG&E is under criminal investigation for.

Is "Leading with love" not good enough for all of you angry souls?

If you cant beat them, join them. They are hiring grunts. Most of you could'nt cut it though.
