Predictions for Conor McGregor vs Nate Diaz in UFC 196?

Agreed, Conor jumped up two weight classes in less than three months. Big balls for moving up and trying to fight bigger fighters. I think he did pretty well despite his obvious disadvantage in size and reach, he was picking Nate apart before he got caught with a few good ones. Bottom line is he got too cocky, kept his hands two low, and paid the consequence.

I wonder if he'll get another shot at Dos Anjos at this point, or if he'll be forced to defend his own featherweight title.

Bro... He didn't truly jump two weight classes. I keep reading this and it's simply not true. He fought another guy the same size and neither of them cut weight. If he actually fought Condit, Lawler, Thompson, Rory, etc, then yes, you could say that. But he didn't.

I like Connor but you're not the champ until you've defended the belt successfully. That's always been rule of the land and lately it's been forgotten

Diaz fights at 170. Connor fights at 145. They are not the same size because they weighed in the same this fight. How is this not jumping up 2 classes? Are you saying diaz could cut to 145 and just chooses not to?

The size difference was stunning, look like Diaz was fighting a midget.

FWIW, I would rather see all the fighters fight much closer to their actual "walking around" or "natural" weight. If a guy starts a camp at 180 I don't really don't think he should fight much under about 170. I think big weight cuts, which Conner is pretty famous for right?, are dangerous and kind of silly. I think the Conner/Nate fight was pretty close to how fights should be.

"I enjoyed the fact that a person could take the shots and keep coming," McGregor said "He kept his composure. He went into almost autopilot mode with the shots. His face was busted up. And I went into panic mode. It was just a shift of energy and he capitalized on it. I think with a bit of adjustment and a bit of recognition it must take more than one, more than two, more than three to put the heavier man away. I think if I go in with that mindset at a heavier weight I think I will do fine again."

^ I gotta say as happy as I was to see Conner get beat, that's a pretty classy statement.

Hard to believe he was surprised that a heavier guy could handle the same shot better than a smaller guy.
Prior to this fight he probably thought he could beat Tyson in his day.
At least he stuck around for the post fight interview.
Credit to him for not being afraid to step up.

The size difference between McGregor & Diaz was pretty obvious, you're trippin if you think they're the "same size". Diaz usually fights in the welterweight division, he had a pretty clear size and reach advantage. McGregor needs to stay in the lightweight division which is more realistic for him, he was a bit over ambitious trying to fight at 170.

Same size :laughing

Super dumb on Conor's part. Fight with hands down and you deserve to lose

Why do guys keep doing this shit?

Anyways can't complain cause good night for bjj

Dropping his guard and being cocky lost him the fight.

I enjoyed the Holmes fight a lot more. Her second round defense of groundwork was amazing. She didn't have a clue what to do but she was able to hold out for almost an entire round on the ground in wtf mode.

You some kinda MMA noob or something? :laughing

No, NATE DIAZ does not typically fight at 170!!! He has fought at WW and he got ragdolled. Plz go brush up on your MMA. YOU are trippin.

Diaz is taller than Cmac, but he is not as broad. Look at Rafael; virtually the same size as Cmac and he rekt Nate. But maybe you didn't know that.

Fuckin casuals. :twofinger

That quote makes no sense. He couldn't find a training partner of similar size to Diaz to prepare for the fight? Ain't buying this bullshit quote.

He lost because he was acting a fool and he got rocked. He had Diaz all busted up and could have easily won if he kept his defense and crisp punching going. But nooooo, it's time for showboating, talking shit in the ring, with his hands down. POW! Now you're wobblin' son.

UFC has long since degenerated into WWE-like soundbytes, showboating, hands-down stupidity and the like. UFC is making money hand over fist with this strategy too, more power to them.

I disagree.

Conor was overpowering at 145lbs, below average at 168. He looked larger than his opponents at featherweight, and we all recognize now he was smaller than Diaz.

Making weight is a sign of training and discipline, but it is also a sign of physical talent. Can an athlete drive themselves under spartan conditions?

The question will come up is could have Diaz, given the time, made lightweight and fought McGregor on "equal ground".

Not so easy to find a training partner that will let you test how much damage he can take before being knocked out. But i agree why he lost.

I have to agree except I think a smaller opponent, or even Diaz 15lbs lighter would have still fallen.

I would say Conner was overpowering at 145 because he never really entered the ring at 145. Am I wrong to say the guy would cut 15-20 lbs, make weight on deaths door and then rehydrate back to around 155-160? I don't know what the other feather weights he was fighting would do but my guess is Conner was just better at cutting weight and rehydrating than most of his opponents. That and his skill level made him pretty unstoppable at that weight class. My personal opinion is that method of fighting and cutting weight is silly and probably more dangerous for your brain than fighting well hydrated and closer to your natural weight.

Edit, thinking that a 6 ft dude like Diaz should fight at 145 seems strange to me. An athletic 6 ft man should probably never be that light. As far as the size different between Conner and Nate, I saw one taller skinnier guy fight a shorter stockier guy. In MMA that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Some guys get you on height and reach. Misha was "smaller" than Holly and still got the win.
