I tend to focus on capability/skill moreso than personality as my focus is on the sport and a person's capability therein. That seems to get lost in conversations like these ...

Rounda got absolutely destroyed in that fight.
She's a good fighter in the women's league of UFC but there are far better than her. The hype machine falls on deaf ears as far as I'm concerned.

Good fight. Good thread. I'll be following Holly more closely after this fight.

I will do that for a random fight, but when it comes to rooting for a guy, watching his career, I pay attention to how they handle the press. Sports is entertainment after all. :dunno

You can take Ronda out the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out Ronda. Strongly-hyped decent competitor in a very weak division. If her division was as competitive as men's BW, or even women's SW, she wouldn't be so dominant, if at all.

She brought in the MMA n00bz and casual fans. Everyone else was thoroughly bored and over it. Tired of seeing her scowl.

She has never been a likable person and a large portion of her draw has been people who want to see the challenger win. People don't talk a whole lot about her smack talk and poor sportsmanship because up to now she could back up the hype. The outpouring of hate is kind of pent up demand, I think.

For my own part, I've had a lot of respect for her, but can't say I liked her. This loss could serve as a catalyst for her to get serious about stand-up.

Sometimes an athlete needs to hear that all is not lost. Edmund's remark was pretty funny to us, but she might have needed to hear something like that. What was worse was he didn't giver her anything to alter her attack or to stop getting lit up by Holm. Not so bad to blow her skirt up, but terrible that's all he did.
 
Ronnies mom said she didn't like Eddies training regimen. Apparently she was right.

Her coach is really poison to be around. I remember the guy from the Ultimate Fighter series Rousey/Tate. Dude is seriously a bad influence

Ego goes with the territory in the fight game, lots of the biggest names in boxing/mma have big egos (Muhammad Ali, Tyson, Mayweather, Silva, Jon Jones, Lesnar, Connor McGregor, Diaz Brothers, etc etc etc). Big personalities sell fights. You either love them or you hate them, either way you're talking about them (case in point, this thread and all of social media this last 24 hours).

For me personally, I don't give a shit about a fighter's personality. I'm not looking for a role model, but I do watch fights and respect fighters for their technique. I love watching Mayweather even though he's a dick, I don't care what he does in his personal life, I just admire his skill, same goes for any other fighter I care to watch.

Isn't it more interesting seeing an upset than watching a same old predictable result. Not like the fighter with a 12-0 record is more deserving of the win.

Any newcomer coming in and taking the belt from an undefeated champion has earned it fair and square.

If an athlete wants to win over the crowd while being an ass they better not become a loser while being an ass because
