The reason I ask, I don't see these changes in the lap times in Formula Pacific. That assumes a simple Rate X Time = Distance.
it is same as you riding sv or 1000,you still do same lap time but your speed approaching corner is higher on 1000.if you fall down there you slide longer.
you assuming all falls are right at apex.

Sure there are more front-end tucks, but the front brake issues are not rare. They happen, and a lot of times, the rider pulls it off. But, Ian Gillies had an issue in T10 at Thunderhill with that new wall. And the weekend I got out to LRRS it happened to a guy in T3 and he died.
It was part of the reason we changed T11 at Infineon. Ask KC with BRG Racing about the old T11.
Brake failure has to be thought about. That's why it took time to go to the new T9 at Infineon, or why you have to check the tire wall at the end of the back straight at T-hill before each weekend.

True. I suppose rare was the wrong term, but quite a bit more infrequent than tucks. And yes, a decent amount of run off in case of emergency is very vital. AMA T1 certainly wouldn't make much sense if there were a wall coming off the hill to the drag strip, but there isn't. As it is, you can dirttrack it all the way back to the pavement at T6 if need be.

And Zoran... :laughing But I think you're wrong, unless they figure out how to make bicycle tires out of hemp versus petroleum, pretty much any form of racing would cease... hell just running requires burning extra calories (energy) and creates more of that dreaded CO2... if the eco-terrorists ever take control, I'm afraid we'll all have to make due with imaginary pursuits.

I haven't seen it asked or discussed yet, but what happens to the backmarker lap calculations for sears point with an entirely new track layout.

I'd like to know what backmarker lap times for sears point with AMA T1 and the T9 bus stop are going to be. What are last year's race times for that configuration? oh yeah, there aren't any.

Can anyone explain "the average of the 3 fastest finishers in that class in 2006".

is that the average of the 3 fastest finisher's laps for a whole race or the average of their fastest laps? or their average race lap throughout the season? don't most racers get faster toward the end ofthe season?

Since no one asked me, if the point is to avoid lapping riders, then shouldn't the formula be based on the length of the track and be 112% at sears where it is 2.3 miles x 8 laps and 116% for thill and buttonwillow where it is closer to 2.9 miles and the races are 6 laps.

No one asked you. The board (THANK YOU!) went to a lot of trouble and work to bring about Clubman races. It is an ongoing process. You want everything to be perfect all the time?
You want to make contributions? Get involved in the club at some level other than complaining on an internet forum about a club you have never raced with yet.

Firstly, it's not an entirely new layout. It's one turn. A decision will be made, probably generously, as to what that change means in terms of lap times. Say 1.5 seconds for example. Bingo, new cut off time is calculated. Quite simple.

And no, the sole reason for the clubman races and cut-off time for sunday racing is not just trying to avoid having lappers. (It still doesnt solve that issue for multi-class grids) Clubman gives new riders a chance to get their feet wet in a real race and if fast enough, qualify for Sunday. Squeaking in under the cutoff by 1/10th of a second isn't exactly in the spirit of the rule, as the limit is pretty generous. There simply needs to be some sort of objective measure. If someone is really that close to the limit, then perhaps they should really do a few more clubman races before jumping into the deep end.
 
oh boy ! the old turn 1 problem again . that ama turn would work great if they would just pave the part where we go into the dirt or move turn closer to the finish line ( 10ft is all we need ) .
personaly i like afm t1 it was one of favorite passing spots on the track . pass on the outside to set up for the inside of t2. plus it's good spot to get around lappers (nice and wide) . they did push the hillside back & the brigde up the hill to make it safer but the speeds are still high though . if we have to go back to ama t1 so be it. stop the whinning and buy some rock guards for your rabiator your going to need them .
as far as safty goes iv'e seen guys hit the barriers pretty hard on both configuratoins . personaly i don't think it's any safer than afm t1 just slower which doesn't equal safer if your confining racers to a 1 line groove .

Last time I rode the AMA T1 (couple months ago) there was a sizeable new piece of asphalt where we used to kick up rocks. I used to go to the dirt fairly often, I never got close with the new paving.

I'm always curious about calculations and formulae. I am also interested in fun and safety. I haven't ridden sears point on a liter bike, so I don't know what it feels like to hit AFM T1 at really high speeds.

It sounds like the cutoff is more arbitrary than formulaic(sp?) with the 115% being a general ballpark of where riders need to be to be skilled enough to ride with the big boys. I don't pretend to be there yet, but I think that most new racers want to know how far they have to go to get into the sunday races whether they choose to grid up or not.

I am sure that even in the back of the grid, there is a lot to pick up from other riders about the speeds they can carry into turns and the lean angles, etc.

as it is, I need to get my bike prepped for tomorrow including a new screen over the radiator for those few people who miss T1 in front of me.

I have personally ridden AMA T1 more than old AFM T1 (will have to come up with a better name) and usually hit my mark between the tiger stripe and the track on the exit. I see a lot of people in front of me hitting the dirt.

Here's a tip or two to avoid being flamed like that:

1) try staying on topic, if you've a topic you'd like to discuss that's significantly different than the one be addressed in the thread... start a new thread

2) if you are going to start a new thread, do a search of the forum and read up on it. your topic of lappers has been discussed ad naseum in many previous threads and quite specifically, helped lead to the creation of the clubmans classes (so all is not futile in regards to forums)

3) your question of how the rule will be interpreted given the track changes is a valid one, but the accusatory tone in which you asked it (the club is run by morons) and the thread hijacking nature of it prompted a reaction

other than that, yes, ignorance is bliss so squelching comments is an easy out.

ramifications of changing from sweeping T1 to AMA T1.

I did search and it hadn't been addressed. This is the thread where the effect of T1 changes are being addressed.

I reread my post and I don't see where you get the "club is run by morons" or any other pejorative from my post.

Just because many posts are "anti-club" and or "anti-board", doesn't mean that mine are. The wording is ambiguous and I was asking for clarification on it here because I figure people in here probably know what the wording was intended to mean.

Again, I don't see the threadjacking, but maybe I am just being blinded by my own perspective. I will start a new thread asking about the definition of "the average of the 3 fastest finishers in that class in 2006". I really thought I would just get a single response.

Someone had told me that the 15% mark was to avoid having many lappers, but again, there is no section of the rulebook, the AFM forums, or this site that I have found that explains the intention of that change. I will search again.
 
Here's another tip for you 675. A club the size of the AFM manages to exist because the members find it within themselves to respect each other even during fights and disagreements. Each person earns that respect, whether it's by being a tough and safe competitor, an intelligent voice in club business, a contributor to the functioning and logistics of the club, or a fun person to have around.

Given the huge number of people and variety of people involved the whole thing would quickly devolve into chaos if the club were dominated by quick to anger asshats.

I suggest you come to some races, meet some people, and learn a little bit about how the club works before going off on people. The AFM is not HA, nobody is going to physically confront you for acting like a tool, but if you ever expect to participate in the club you'd be wise to grow up a bit. The irony is, that among all the people in the AFM I could find quite a few who might deserve to be called @#$#@%# in a forum, but afm199 sure isn't one of them.

Apologies to 675Trip, I took your comments (which are sarcastic and angry) as a criticism of the board and the club. The amount of work that has gone into making the club a successful venture is HUGE and ongoing. It's not a department store where you buy retail racing and can expect good service, it is a non profit club where the members are the backbone and where sportsmanship and good will are endlessly important. As such, if you want to make improvements, a dollop of sugar goes a lot further than a teaspoon of vinegar.
