I know that forum sites like barf are a dying breed, and I know the little corner of barf called the LEO Forum doesn't tend to get much traffic, especially lately.

I've been on barf since 2008. Barf is also mostly local to the bay area. Over the years I've made what I consider many online friends on barf, and though I haven't found the time to participate in any official rallies, I have met a handful of you guys in person, and have gone on the occasional group ride. You guys are kinda like my on line family.

We've shared a lot of good times, and more than a couple heated debates, especially regarding LEO topics.

I am now nearing the end of my career in LE. I can go at any time, and have been considering all of my options. I've been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to get paid to ride a motorcycle, and work the best assignment in LE, as a motor officer, for the last 4 1/2 years.

Over the years, I've attempted to promote to sergeant. Luck and circumstance haven't exactly been on my side with that. With all that said, I'd like to share with you all that I just accepted a promotional offer for sergeant. It will go into effect towards the end of January, 2026. I will, of course, have to step down from my motor officer assignment, and will be going back to working patrol on 4 wheels. I am looking forward to the new challenges ahead. Better late than never, I guess. :mm4l

Wow! Congratulations, Sergeant! Well done! Never too late to move on up and be the best at what you do! :applause:mm4l

Congratulations! This is a big deal!

Congratulations! You will have to find time to ride Motos strictly for fun.

Yes! I'll be more motivated now too, since I will no longer be getting so much saddle time at work. :thumbup

It's slightly bittersweet as I've really enjoyed working on a motor.

congratulations Sarge. How long do you have to hold the rank to bump up the pension?

Nice overall

Congrats. :Port

You seem way to young to retire.

It's not really for the money. Our sergeants aren't that much higher in pay than officers, and with several stipends I will lose with the promotion, the first year will pretty much be a wash. I calculated an extra $100/month. The following year would see a 5% increase. So, basically 2 years would show 5+% increase in highest salary, plus more service credits.

Good way to start the New Year.
And thank you for sharing this positive news.
It sort of radiates all over us.

Thank you so for the kind words. I'm excited to start in this new role.

so the "i want to speak to your sergeant" situations will be a little different now 😆

but seriously, congrats!

Hopefully your SS benefits increase accordingly.

SS benefits? Nope, don't get those. Well, I do have enough credits to eventually receive a tiny amount from work I did way back when. But we don't pay into SS, only CalPERS and Medicare.
