Stock Thread 2018

Could be the blockbuster. Or just the bust.:rofl

Ha, my thoughts exactly. I bought a small position at $185.98, am up 13% so far. It was really bumpy at the start, but seems to be somewhat steady now.

I just bought Ford with some spare change.

Their biggest selling vehicle the F150 is made from aluminum which the US has no smelters for. Therefore has to be imported and aluminum has just been hit with a 10% import tariff.
Maybe it looks worse on the surface than it really is.

Did Alcoa shut down all their US operations? I though there were a few left.

There should still be a Century Aluminum plant in Hawesville, Kentucky. Be prepared to pay more for a six-pack or for a new car ...

Ya'll messin with autos? NO THANKS.

I like tech stocks and ETF's on market swings.

My current favorite is Zscaler. I got in on some calls pre-earnings that did quite well. Still holding some long positions that are up about 20% too. Very disruptive tech stock that should crush over the next 2-3 years.

A tender simply means that the company that issued the shares will tender (offer) you a fixed price for your shares on a certain date. It's typically, but not always a price advantage for you. In other words, if the stock trades at 6, they might offer you 6.25. If you accept the tender, then the shares magically disappear from your account and either money or shares of another company appear ( some tenders are for share swaps).

Thank you for clarifying for me. After reading the document I was sent Altaba says they would offer me some BABA stock in exchange for my shares. Been eyeing alibaba but not sure if I should pull the trigger.

I feel Alibaba will be a good long-term play. Wish I didn't get in so late, and with such a small position. Oh well, long time horizon.....

put on yur seatbelts, bumpy ride ahead (tariffs, China, trade wars, stocks and commodities reacting)

One percent is just a blip, no biggie. Investors this morning don't think it's big enough to break the rising trend of higher highs and higher lows since april.

Well I don't see Trump backing down. So more then likely once China matches he will ramp up to 200billion.

Don't speak the name else it gets kicked to PF!

But yeah, I don't see any backing down on the tariffs, at least not in a direct way. The tariffs are keeping a promise, plus big swings mean big bucks, so why not? Be wary if/when a scapegoat starts taking shape.

Posting for some closure... I woke up this morning to a dip at .7570 and jumped on it. I don't like straight-up speculating but sometimes it can't be helped. :toothless

:facepalm

Gotta have a sense of humor about this shit. :laughing

Agreed. I've got my 6-point harness standing by......

Trump is such an idiot (sorry if I said that out loud and if it is considered political).
